Hagel: Iraq May Become Another Vietnam

A day after the deadliest attack against American troops in four months in Iraq, U.S. Sen. Chuck Hagel said from Iraq's capital that the war effort is in danger of becoming another Vietnam.
Asked by a reporter how many more days like that Americans would be willing to take, Hagel referred to the upheaval in Congress two weeks ago, sparked by a call from Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa. -- a Vietnam War veteran and strong military ally -- for a complete pullout within six months.
"I think you saw a manifestation of ... the frustration of the American public break out on the floor of the House and Senate," Hagel said.
The Nebraska Republican made the statement Friday in a conference call from Baghdad -- one stop in a weeklong tour of the Middle East. On Thursday, a roadside bomb killed 10 U.S. Marines and wounded 11 others on a foot patrol near Fallujah.

"I think you saw a manifestation of ... the frustration of the American public break out on the floor of the House and Senate," Hagel said. Really? I saw a resolution calling for the immediate withdrawal of American forces from Iraq fail 403-3.

When is Hagel going to do the honorable thing and switch parties?

Hagel's the new McCain trying to make a name for himself. At least McCain seems to have finally settled down some.

Right in the heart of Baghdad he is undermining the war on terror, even the democrats did not do this yet. Something should be done about Hagel. This man must be crushed and removed from the Republican party at any cost.

The only things that Vietnam and Iraq have in common are that they are both wars and that the democrats continue to commit treason.

The house rejected a proposal to withdraw from Iraq by a vote of 403-3. Bush's approval numbers are going back up and Bush is finally responding to the attacks on his credibility leading up to the war.
Leave it to a Republican Senator to steer us back towards the path of defeat by mentioning the unthinkable: we could lose the war in Iraq.

Were in trouble if this is the type of loser we going to have running for the nomination of our party. Hagel needs to STFU.

Sickening. And it's not as if these various detractors have a better plan. Or any plan.

That vote was only 403-3 because dems said it wasn't murtha's resolution.
Pelosi said a majority of the house dems are for murtha's resolution to be out in 6 months.
