Commissioner wants ban on slaps (Norway)

All violence against children is unacceptable says Norway's Commissioner for Children, Reidar Hjermann, and will now push for a total ban on physical discipline by parents.

A recent Supreme Court ruling upheld Norway's ban on spanking children but emphasized that the less severe "careful slap" remained an option. Hjermann is not satisifed, newspaper Dagsavisen reports.

Hjermann argues that there should not be a limit for accepted violence that differentiates between adults and children.

"Would my wife have accepted a slap from me? Or would we accept boxing ears or some other kind of spontaneous slap of other adults, such as the mentally handicapped, the senile or the mentally ill, to correct undesired behavior," Hjermann asked the newspaper.

Hjermann is concerned that the existing law leaves too much leeway for violence from adult to child, and that there is a tendency for violence, even very minor, to escalate.

The commissioner has therefore decided to send a letter to the government and ask for the Act to be clarified, to provide children with the same protection under the law as adults.

"Violence in all its nuances, including a slap, is both unnecessary and harmful in childrearing. In addition, it doesn't work," Hjermann said.

Between this kind of thing and the Norwegian government's plan to give 40% of each corporation's voting shares to employees..... hope they aren't too surprised when the Muslims start slapping them around.

I don't suppose it ever occurs to liberals that without discipline children become spoiled, nasty, rotten.

I guess they become selfish, nasty liberals, the new barbarians.

My Mother used to give me a "Careful Slap" with a green switch. My wife gave my kids the wooden spoon or the fly swatter. It worked.

Or you'll get what we have now in the US: adults unable to accept any form of correction.

I wonder what it will be like when these children grow up and go away to college in other countries? Will they turn our campuses even nastier than they are now?

Bingo.
Where does this kind of stupidity come from?
Why is this fool in a position to say/do this?
The buck stops with the Norweigan voters for electing such fools. Their gene pool created him and their votes keep him where he is.

You'll notice that Reidar Hjermann doesn't mention any children of his own.
This comes from a childless man. What a moron.

My dad spanked me only twice that I remember. After that, his LOOK and the SOUND of his voice was enough to keep me in line.

They "grow up" (at least physically) to become hooded anarchists, rabid enviro-wackos, latte-sipping vandals, Arafat-supporters, and anti-American peaceniks.

SLAP: THE ULTIMATE PUNISHMENT IN THE MINDS OF LIBERALS Corporal punishment by parents is necessary, or else the world will slap them so hard they will turn into more liberals since they woll not have developed coping skills against the world of slaps awaiting us all! Get this one on a Larl Rove Slap , a lib cartoon. It really made me laugh. A swift kick in the nuts should have been the topic. That would be more in keeping as a metaphor to Roveys technique with Lib Wing Nuts!

Exactly on target. Thus we have the growing scourge of road rage where people think they can drive without regard to others on the road and when one of the others dares honk their horn or express displeasure they find themselves being beat up or even shot at!

Proverbs 13:24; He that spareth the rod hateth his son, but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.

Proverbs 23:13; Withhold not correction from the child: for if you beatest him with the rod, he shall not die.

Don't get me wrong there is a fine line between discipline and abuse, but a lack of disclipine is abuse. Can anyone say neglect?

Abraham Maslow observed that the college students he taught in the 1960's were "astonished by punishment." Unfortunately, his theories only made the situation worse.

This is simply becaue governments do not want to be held accountable along with anyone for anything.

Slapping someone is to hold them accountable and well disciplined kids discipline their own government well. They do not live by the flesh, enslaved by the flesh. The gov wants that on the other hand.

I remember my cousin, who was spanked as a little girl by her mom when she did wrong, vowed to never never spank her children. She wound up having 4 little children. One day, she was crying to her mom, that after putting up with her misbehaving children all day, and nothing she was doing would get her children to stop and listen and quit misbehaving, that she finally had to spank them to get them to behave. Her mom just smiled when she heard this. There is a place for a proper spanking.
