When people say to me "happy holidays" I reply, "It is OK to wish me a Merry Christmas, I won't sue." It is so very disarming and always worth a good laugh.
One co-worker said "but I am Jewish". I said, "yeah, but I am not, so happy Hannukah." Still laughter.
Try it yourself.
I always get a good laugh when I wish people a Merry Kwanzaa.
I had a customer service rep in Kohl's go on and on about a co-worker who complained that nobody liked her. The rep tells me all about our Savior, The Lord Jesus Christ and how he wasn't liked either. She asks me then, what makes this woman think she is better than our Lord?
However, when I went to leave she says, "Happy Holidays". I stopped, looked her straight in the eye and said, "Merry Christmas". She was so shocked that she dropped her gum out of her mouth.
What was the point of going on and on about Jesus and then saying Happy Holidays?
