A person who was at Annapolis today sent me the following about the AP photo CNN ran on its web site of Midshipmen asleep in the auditorium before the Presidents speech:
This is bias. The mids started arriving at 0630 in the auditorium. Most have barely gotten any sleep because it's Army-Navy week. Almost all the mids were using the down time to get some rest while they waited the several hours. They were clearly all awake by 9:30 as things started to happen and certain all were awake for the speech. As everyone who has attended a service academy will tell you, there is nothing more cherished than rack time. But CNN does a disservice to the Naval Academy to imply the mids would sprawl out asleep in the presence of the Commander in Chief. I think CNN owes these fine young Americans an apology.
When I was in the service any time we went into an auditorium to be lectured or listen to a speech we went to sleep in the time between getting there and the event actually happening. After that you better be awake because someone was going to toss you to the floor if you fell asleep. It is hard in the service, especially in an Academy of any type and a soldier, sailor, marine takes their sleep where they find it. I used to fall asleep during the 10 minute breaks we would get on 25 mile hikes, then jump up ready to go when the "boss" blew the whistle. Of course I was young then:)
What's a CNN?
my son graduated from Anapolis in 05. Averaged about 5 hours of sleep and took cat naps whenever possible.
How do you control the length of sleep and when to wake up?
Well, come over here and sit next to me. We must be from the same tribe. I've long since quite telling (okay...okay, crabbing) my husband about these "white nights". LOL! All he does is give me a puzzled look and advises, "Well, just quit thinking so much...just go to sleep."
(slaps hand to forehead) Duh! Now why didn't I think of that?
I lsot count how many times I stayed passed my desired sleeping hour because of the thoughts run ning through my head. Curse and blessings from an active mind I guess. :/
CNN is dog crap.
