If the President is going to give a speech to your group (any group) the press will be there. They will take pictures of you if you do anything out of order to make the President look bad. Therefore don't do anything out of order.
They didn't do anything out of order. They did what all service academy members do with spare time--they sleep. No disrespect to their CINC was intended. If you saw the speech live, you'd know that.
"Looks like some midshipmen need their butts kicked."
I was not a midshipman, for openers.
But when I was in training in the military, we WERE given breaks. Our training leaders were in charge. We did as we were told.
So I think your concern is misdirected.
If you think this is a big deal, be upset with academy leadership, for not having the midshipmen sit continuously at attention for an indefinite amount of time.
There seems to be no harm done by a photo showing busy young people getting a breather.
No, this seems like a leadership issue. the person in charge should have assessed the situation and planned accordingly. Blame the chief and not the indians.
ONLY when they play Army! One rule of being in the service is eat and sleep every chance you get, you never know when the next opportunity will come. I can still fall asleep in 30 seconds, anywhere I have some downtime.
