You've got to be something of a futurist to predict what socialization will look and feel like ten years from now. Well, you can look at Korea and Japan, two countries with high rates of alcoholism. I just don't think we want to live in a society like that.

Frankly, I see alcoholics EVERYWHERE.
I spend about three months a year in Korea and another three months a year in Mexico and they all remind me of the US in that manner.
Next year we "do" China, so I'm interested to see how it works over there.

Have you ever actually lived in Korea or Japan? I've lived in Japan. They have plenty of problems but they aren't caused by studying too much. I also know plenty of driven Asians and plenty of Americanized Asians who disappointed their parents. Yes, the Asian kids who don't get 1600 on their SATs can have it rough but those who do get 1600 seem to be doing pretty good, as do the Jewish kids, Lebanese kids, Indian kids, etc. who have parents who drive them to succeed.
