Miami police announced Monday they will stage random shows of force at hotels, banks and other public places to keep terrorists guessing and remind people to be vigilant.
Deputy Police Chief Frank Fernandez said officers might, for example, surround a bank building, check the IDs of everyone going in and out and hand out leaflets about terror threats.

I anxiously await the surprise raid at muslim gatherings and/or mosques

From the article it doesn't sound like the intended target of this intimidation are Muslims. It sounds like its aimed directly at you and I.
From the story:
Deputy Police Chief Frank Fernandez said officers might, for example, surround a bank building, check the IDs of everyone going in and out...
Perhaps the JBT that order this CF needs another copy of the Constitution of the United States!

"Frank Fernandez said officers might, for example, surround a bank building, check the IDs of everyone going in and out and hand out leaflets about terror threats."And what's he going to do when a citizen says, "Go f*ck yourself, I'm not showing any 'ID' to walk down the street of Miami!"??
Who exactly is the "terrorist" here?

I don't know but I'd bet it involves a tazer and a billy club!

"This is an in-your-face type of strategy. It's letting the terrorists know we are out there," Fernandez said. Then show up at a mosque and demonstrate your in-your-face approach and leave the regular population alone. This is a poor implementation of police powers and can only alienate the majority of the population. The lawyers will make a bundle, tho.

When our so-called "leaders" are afraid to name the enemy - whether it be islam or mexican invasion forces - the only thing left is to deprive everyone of their rights. If a few heads get bashed in by some cops who enjoy that sort of thing, well, at least the bad guys didn't get offended.

Miami...half the people won't have any legal ID anyway, I'm sure they'll all be summarily deported.../sarc

Welcome to the new
Amerika! Frankly, the terrorist are winning this war, they have brought Americans to the point where we are willingly subvert our own freedoms without a second thought. If we continue down this errant path, we will someday awake in a police state, all in the name of security. In 2004 the US Supreme Court upheld
Hiibel v. Sixth Judicial District Court of the state of Nevada giving police the power to ask any person, for any reason, their name and arrest those who refuse to cooperate. At the time of the decision it was noted -
The ruling stopped short of allowing police to demand identification, like driver's licenses, but the precedent has now been set for future rulings that can expand to capricious searches at the whim of a police officer. Apparently, the Miami police are not waiting for future rulings and have taken it upon themselves to act in this outrageously fascist manner.
As a veteran, I am appalled! These are the tactics used by the enemies I swore to defend this country from. If you had told me thirty years ago these things would be happening in my country, I would have thought you insane. It seems I was the one who was ignorant and now my country is no more.

This sort of thing must be stopped. This is not Nazi Germany and I am not going to show my papers in America.

I feel the same way as you do - even now we have young men and women dying for freedom, while the politicians slowly remove it at home.
As I said in the other thread, I'm ashamed at what we are leaving our grandchildren and their grandchildren. I'm further ashamed (and shocked, although not so much anymore) that it's being done when the GOP controls the White House and Congress.

A stupid question: Is this constitutional? It seems to me that the constitutionality of the practice depends on the degree of danger that suspected terrorist activities pose to the public, since this is a public safety issue. This proposal seems like a stretch to me, especially when the police would more probably have greater success surveilling mosques.

It's past time that we as citizens begin pushing back against these fascist jackasses before we end up like Nazi Germany.
See my ID?
I don't freaking think so.

You know what's really funny about this whole thing.
The jihadists will be out there watching the Miami Police running around like a bunch of keystone cops while they are off planning their next bloodletting...
come to think of it, that's not funny at all.
