The Vet Strategy [Democrat Strategy]
Newsweek ^ | Dec. 5, 2005 issue | Richard Wolffe and Jonathan Darman

The public is unhappy. The GOP is on the run. The Dems have a secret weapon: Iraq war vets, deployed on a new field of battle.

Dec. 5, 2005 issue - A few days after last year's presidential election, Ladda (Tammy) Duckworth was piloting her helicopter north of Baghdad when she saw a ball of fire at her knees. A rocket-propelled grenade had struck her Black Hawk at its chin bubble, close to her seat. When she awoke 10 days later, at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, she found she had lost her legs, but none of her desire to serve. For the next year, as she recovered from her devastating injuries, she became one of the capital's favorite troops: an inspirational war story amid the grinding violence of Iraq. She was a senator's guest at the State of the Union and a witness before a congressional hearing on health care for war casualties. As Veterans Affairs Secretary Jim Nicholson put it, she was simply "a true American hero."

She could have stayed a trophy veteran. But as Major Duckworth met with Democratic members of Congress, she talked about how she viewed politics as an extension of her service. One summer's day she invited Rahm Emanuel, the Democrats' master strategist in the House of Representatives, to the hospital to meet some recovering vets from their home state of Illinois. "We were walking down the hall and you could see the incredible response to her and her leadership," Emanuel told NEWSWEEK.

Oh my, I've been so inspired by Tammy Duckworth. Now I am sooooo disappointed that she is a Democrat, and that she could even consider running as a Dem.

I can understand that she may consider herself a Democrat, but how in the world would she want to align herself with the cut-and-run party right now at this time in History with the way the Deomcrats have been behaving. That is really disappointing to me.

This is Hyde's district, I salute her service, but what is her stance on abortion or gay marriage or the 2nd amendment. It's probably the democrat dogma of pro-abortion, and that won't sell well in Hyde's district.

It's just another anti-Bush diatribe with lies about Iraq and the American people. Curse the liars!

This great work was created by Zacs Mom.
"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within.
An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known, and he carries his banners openly. But the traitor moves among those within the gates freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very hall of government itself. For the traitor appears no traitor.
He speaks in the accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their garments, and he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in hearts of men.
He rots the soul of a nation. He works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of a city. He infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A Murderer Is Less To Be Feared." Cicero, 42 B.C.

Where are the Republican veterans who want to run for office?

Hard to believe any of these folks want to align themselves with the forces who want the USA to LOSE for crying out loud.

The DemocRAT party - always in search of "the gimmick," the "how can we fool 'em today" strategy. They dare not put forth what they really want to do, because they know it's poison.

The last time they tried the truth (Mondale, 1984: "I'm going to raise your taxes!"), they were blown away. They have since toiled at perfecting the stealth candidate. These are just their latest incarnations.

Oh, and if you doubt that Hillary's going to watch very carefully what happens to this strategy, I've got some nice oceanfront property in Tennessee to sell you.

The day the Republican Party and Republican Candidates adopt the Jean Schmidt strategy will be the day the can stop worrying about a slide in any polls.
