Bali mourners were terror target

JEMAAH Islamiah mastermind Azahari bin Husin was planning a suicide bomb attack on the memorial service held in Kuta last month for the 202 people who died in the Bali nightclub bombings three years ago.

The October 12 service was attended by 300 people, including Foreign Minister Alexander Downer, Justice Minister Chris Ellison, Bali Police Chief I Made Mangku Pastika and at least 50 relatives of the 88 Australians who died.

The JI bombmaker, who was killed in a shootout with police earlier this month, was also considering mounting attacks on a range of other Bali targets, including the airport, the Ubud art market, temples, restaurants and the zoo, according to a detailed document titled The Bali Project obtained by Indonesian police.

Intelligence sources in Indonesia told The Australian the document, found on a computer disc carried by one of Azahari's JI colleagues, detailed the plan to bomb the memorial service.

It was abandoned only because of the high level of security at the service.

Instead, JI chose to attack a fortnight earlier, with three suicide bombs in Bali restaurants that killed 23 people, including four Australians.

The undated document, which was written some time after the most recent attacks at Jimbaran Bay and Kuta Square in Bali, contains the names, ages and nationalities of the victims, and a "debriefing" about the attacks.

Indonesian Police Chief General Sutanto has revealed that Azahari had made 30 bombs that were ready to be used in a new wave of terror attacks. Australian Federal Police Commissioner Mick Keelty said this week that the discovery of documents and plans in the wake of Azahari's death had given authorities an unprecedented insight into JI and the way it operates.

He told a counter-terrorism conference in Sydney that the documents revealed sophisticated surveillance, intelligence and recruitment techniques and information about why some targets were being selected.

In the wake of the discovery of the documents, a tape warning about more strikes against the West and a website instructing terrorists on how to shoot pedestrians and throw grenades at cars prompted the Department of Foreign Affairs to issue a new security warning for Indonesia last Friday.

Sources in Jakarta said Azahari and JI strategist Noordin Top had been directly linked to the website. The Bali Project information, which was written by Azahari, was recovered from a computer disc being carried by a courier, Kholil, who was meant to deliver it to Top.

But he was captured the day before Azahari was killed. Top is still on the run.

The document shows JI was choosing targets frequented by tourists from Australia, the US, Britain and New Zealand.

It comes as three men suspected of being linked to Azahari and Top, and of being involved in last year's Australian embassy bombing in Jakarta, were arrested in Central Java.

They were picked up by police separately a week after Azahari was killed in East Java. Identified as Fatkhurrahman, Bukhori and Yasin al-Reza, the men were taken for questioning to Jakarta.

Jakarta police spokesman Untung Yoga Ana said the men were arrested on November 17 under anti-terror laws that allow police to detain suspects for seven days.

Police are questioning the trio about their relationship with Top and Azahari and whether they helped hide the men or whether they provided assistance for operations.

They also want to know if they had any involvement in other attacks, including the 2003 attack on the Marriott Hotel in Jakarta.

You hurt us bombing Bali, we we can take the pain
But if you think you'll beat us you can think a-bloody-gain
We battled at Gallipoli and we fought the bloody Hun,
Of all the arseholes we've had to face you're just another one

You won't get your hands dirty, you won't fire a gun,
Whenever danger threatens you just pack your bags and run
You brainwash innocent children to do your evil deeds
Be careful you don't let them know just where it really leads

You get them to believe all of your bigotry and lying
Until they cannot see there's no glory in their dying.
Now, we'd like to pose a question, answer if you can,
Where does your holy book tell you to kill your fellow man?

Now listen hard and listen well, we're giving you the word
You're never going to beat us, you spineless bloody turd
You'd never face us personally, you haven't got the guts
You know that if you ever did, we'd have your bloody nuts.

Our spirit is unbroken, and our heads are still unbowed
We sure as hell aren't scared of you and of your gutless crowd
So... get your act together... you'll never win because
What you're really up against is The Spirit That Is Oz!

Bali didn't beat us, and we knew you'd try again
But once again, we're telling you we'll take the bloody pain
Your bombing killed some people and you think you've made a stand
Well, let me tell you something 'bout the people of my land

We went ashore on ANZAC day, near 90 years ago
Our people went to war with Turks who share your faith, you know.
Today, the Turks and us are friends because we understand
That killing for religion isn't something our God planned.

Be clear that we will fight you, and we will defeat your kind
If we need to, we will crush you and leave none of you behind
We are not the kind of people, who go 'round starting fights
But we'll help to finish them, and we will stand up for our rights

And we do not stand alone, there's Yanks and there is Brits
We stood with them, they'll stand with us, to wipe out all you shits
There's others too, of course, you've bitten off more than you'll chew
But we'll stuff it down your throats, and then we'll kick the crap from you.

We're not afraid of you, you see, no matter how you hope
We'll back down when the last of you is swinging from a rope
Or lying bleeding in a ditch, or shot down on a beach
If I were you, I'd start running - but there's nowhere we won't reach

You bombed our embassy, but you don't care who you killed
You're mad at us, but it's Indonesian graves that you have filled
You can't even kill properly, so you haven't got a prayer
And when you die, there will not be a paradise waiting there

It was said before, but you didn't learn, so I'll say it again
You cannot hope to beat us, because we will take the pain
You don't scare us, you mongrel dogs, you pigs, you unclean swine
Us Aussies still possess the spirit that was at Lone Pine

At Ypres, and then at the Somme, and at Villers Bretonneux
At Tobruk, and at Kokoda, and wherever enemies were
At Kapyong, and at Long Tan, and at places with no name
The Spirit That Is Oz has really always been the same

You're scum, you're filth, you're evil, and you are on borrowed time
If you want to be martyrs, then we will oblige you, slime
And we're not alone, remember that, we've stood up with our mates
And they will stand with us, as we send you to your fates

That is a RIGHT-ON-TARGET poem naturalman1975.

Are you the author of that poem?
If so, I would like permission to reprint it.

I wish I was the author. As I understand it, the first part (up to the line What you're really up against is The Spirit That Is Oz! is totally anonymous - it appeared online in the days after the first Bali bombing and nobody has a clue who wrote it. It's all over the internet now, and there's been no complaints from any author, so, I think you can feel pretty safe reprinting. The second half of the poem (from Bali didn't beat us, and we knew you'd try again - written in the same style as an add on to it in the aftermath of the Australian embassy bombing - I do know who wrote that and he has given permission for it to be distributed as people wish, though I have the impression, he'd rather not be named - he's a university student who has to spend his days surrounded by left wingers).

Basically, as far as I can tell, you should feel free to reprint it if you wish.
