I believe this is an important victory in the war on terror, because one's identity within the tribe has such importance when compared to national indentity. When Feisal and T. E. Lawrence led the war for Arab liberation from the Turks in WW I, one great challenge they had was convincing the people that they were Arabs and not Howeitat or Fejr.

A big question for the people of Iraq and other Muslim countries: Even if you admire the "insurgency", do you really want that kind of people running your country and your lives, should they win? Would your life be better under Zarqawi and his ilk than under democratic rule?
