Sounds like a damn fine way to protest a bear hunt--dress up in a bear suit. I encourage more of that. Fill up the woods with protesters in bear suits--Go for it, protesters, it'll confuse the hell out of those mean old hunters.

"...including a few wearing bear costumes..."

LOL! Probably not a good idea.

"More than 100 demonstrators, including a few wearing bear costumes and carrying stuffed bears, protested Saturday on Route 23 at the corner of Canistear Road to oppose the upcoming bear hunt. Chanting "Kill the Hunt. Not the bears," and holding signs saying "Bullets are not science," the protesters stood on both sides of the highway encouraging motorists to honk their car horns in support."

The First Environmental President Theodore Roosevelt (who was a Republican) went on a bear hunt while in office and managed to bag one. To commemorate the event, an American toy company created a cloth animal stuffed with feathers and called it the "Teddy Bear".

My how things have changed....

I heard of a rancher in New Hampshire who would paint "not a deer" on the side of his cows to keep hunters from shooting them. Maybe these bear-costumed protesters could take a page from that book.

two years ago in which more than 300 bears were killed,

And they still aren't extinct or endangered? They're still a problem?

Excellent point. And last year, Kerry went goose hunting and not a word was heard from the antis. Imagine if this President went hunting?

There's a way to coexist with them."

There is never a good and decent way to coexist with an omnivore. Pig and chicken farming will teach you that!

Hmmm... which way to go to outrun those pesky bear hunters.

Speaking of bear suits in hunting season, one year a friend of mine put a mounted deer hear, 4 point black tail, in the brush, with the antlers visable, on a dirt road frequented by hunters and we counted 20 bullet holes in it at the end of the first day. Going about in a bear suit is not a good idea!

I drove up Canistear at about 1pm on Saturday but the wife wouldn't let me hold my single finger salute out the window while honking at these turds.

I also noted many of the plate holders on the cars. While it's not science, I did see cars and trucks Essex/Bergen county dealers and one from Rockaway something or other.

Not a single one of these wankers has to exit his/her house at 6am and be concerned there may be cubs and mama waiting around the corner of the house. I literally deal with this every single day. I've not had any NBEs that early, but there's always a first.

And for the record, I don't want the bears exterminated, just thinned out so that there is enough to eat in the woods, instead of rummaging around my yard.

Some Wildlife agencies set up mechanical deer as you and your friend did and they do nab a few unscrupulous "road hunters".

Watching some video of the sting can be hilarious when the shooter knows he nailed the "deer" and it doesn't even flinch.

Yes. I wouldn't support this hunt every year, but another culling is needed. That ought to hold it down for another 5 or so years.

Most of these damn protests, Cindy Sheehan included , could be avoided if law enforcement would just mind their own damn business and go out looking for criminals........Let the law of nature take its own course.

Actually, kerry pretended to go goose hunting...but your point is well taken. A goose died by someone's hand to promote that goofy s.o.b.
