One of the nice things about the Internet and FR is that these things are difficult to hide, a few hundred emails from out of state gets peoples attention.

No kidding. I can't really blame this guy for the media blackout on what's really happening in Iraq, but this guy has seriously questionable principles and what really got him screaming was a true statement about communism (that should tell you something right there).
I suppose Mr. Daly hasn't heard of the 40,000 Kurds getting nerve-gassed in Iraq or the 1.5 people that he's killed or the tens of thousands that he and his sons have torture-murdered for fun. How about the 600,000+ people that have been found so far in Iraqi mass graves. Mr. Daly wants freedom of political expression, how about Saddam murdering every political opponent that he's ever had? Guys like Mr. Daly always say, "Sure, Saddam was a bad guy, but..." When you're a communist, there's always a "but".
Saddam has killed people in his government who were doing their jobs too well and were in danger of being promoted ahead of his cronies in the Iraqi govt. Maybe Mr. Daly should read this: http://www.af.mil/news/airman/0704/world1.shtml

If Beach was black and she wanted to bring Sharpton on campus and her white professor ranted that she was a left wing communist stalinist and he would do everything to keep her off campus. And replace the quote with "true freedom begins when our troops shoot their superiors" with "if whites do not unite, they will lose their rights to colored people" and let us see how the college will defend First Admendment rights.

or the 1.5 people that he's killed Oops, make that "1.5 million that Saddam has killed."

it would be so gratifying to tell both of these a-holes that they've just spent their last day on the job, and that they were going to be escorted by security back to their offices to clear them out, and that anything left in their offices after 1700 would be auctioned off by the sheriff. and then id hold a meeting of all faculty and staff in the university and explain what i did, and that anybody who didnt like it was probably part of the problem, and could expect similar treatment if they ever tried to harass a student over his/her political or civic involvement.

Check out Post 14. Could this happen at a school near you?

I didn't see in the professor's comments where he attacked the student personally or threatened her personally.
His comments are disgusting but he has the 1A right to say them. The professor and the college president have made their choice ... the parents who send their kids to this school need to make theirs.

This wackjob professor was on the Tony Snow show over the weekend and he waffled big time on his statement that soldiers should turn their weapons on their superior officers.
The guest host gave him several opportunities to restate it and he said he never wrote that but then he got tied up in a lie and all but admitted it. What a loser.

Professor Dalys Email
The full unedited text of Professor Dalys email follows.
Dear Rebecca:
I am asking my students to boycott your event. I am also going to ask others to boycott it. Your literature and signs in the entrance lobby look like fascist propaganda and is extremely offensive. Your main poster "Communism killed 100,000,000" is not only untrue, but ignores the fact that CAPITALISM has killed many more and the evidence for that can be seen in the daily news papers.
The U.S. government can fly to dominate the people of Iraq in 12 hours, yet it took them five days to assist the people devastated by huricane Katrina. Racism and profits were key to their priorities. Exxon, by the way, made $9 Billion in profits this last quarter--their highest proft margin ever. Thanks to the students of WCCC and other poor and working class people who are recruited to fight and die for EXXON and other corporations who earning megaprofits from their imperialist plunders.
If you want to count the number of deaths based on political systems, you can begin with the more than a million children who have died in Iraq from U.S.-imposed sanctions and war. Or the million African American people who died from lack of access to healthcare in the US over the last 10 years.
I will continue to expose your right-wing, anti-people politics until groups like your won't dare show their face on a college campus. Real freedom will come when soldiers in Iraq turn their guns on their superiors and fight for just causes and for people's needs--such freedom fighters can be counted throughout American history and they certainly will be counted again.
Prof. John Daly

These are apparently his personal political views. I disagree with the college president's assessment of this. The instructor wasn't talking personal political views, he was talking facts and he was getting it dead wrong. Let's review his claims (and I've thrown in my comments in square brackets):
- "'Communism killed 100,000,000' is not only untrue..." [Actually, it is documented fact, and 100 million is a conservative estimate when talking about Chairman Mao's "Great Leap Forward" and Stalin's forced famines in the USSR.]
- CAPITALISM has killed many more [Sure, every war we've even been in was a great murder-fest for cheap oil and fast cars, and the official death rates need to be multiplied by a couple of hundred or so.]
- The U.S. government can fly to dominate the people of Iraq in 12 hours, yet it took them five days to assist the people devastated by huricane Katrina. [Yeah, it took 12 hours to set up everything to invade Iraq. What planet are you on, fruit-boy? And you seem to be unaware that FEMA is not a first-responder, that's what the state and local govts. are tasked with by defintion. Maybe you're also unaware that the Red Cross, FEMA, and the Salvation Army were prevented from pre-positioning food and emergency supplies in New Orleans and surrounding counties. What say you, Professor?]
- Racism and profits were key to their priorities. [Sure, feel free to expand on that thought. Racism against who? And one of the main Democrat talking-points for Iraq is bitching about how much the war cost, so tell us how we're making money off Iraq. Congress and the rest of the planet are not seeing it.]
- Exxon, by the way, made $9 Billion in profits this last quarter--their highest proft margin ever. [Profit margin is, by definition, a percentage. So what is that percentage, and what is the increase? And what does it have to do with Iraq? As a bonus, maybe you can explain something for us dumb right-wingers: since all of our foreign policies are about oil and getting rich, why are we supporting Israel, a country with no oil, and pissing off all these middle eastern countries like Saudi Arabia that have oil?]
- If you want to count the number of deaths based on political systems, you can begin with the more than a million children who have died in Iraq from U.S.-imposed sanctions and war. Or the million African American people who died from lack of access to healthcare in the US over the last 10 years. [Even if your cited "facts" were true, you still have 98 million more deaths to accout for before you overtake communism in your death toll. Even if you blamed every death in WWII on the USA, it still doesn't get you halfway there. Please enlighten us, Professor.]
- Real freedom will come when soldiers in Iraq turn their guns on their superiors and fight for just causes and for people's needs... [And how will shooting a bunch of military officers advance your cited "just causes", or is making a commie-loving do-gooder like you feel better one of those "just causes". People's needs? Are you telling us that the Iraqis' and Kuwaitis' need to live without fear of having their entire families die in mass-graves is not a worthy "people need"?]
- I will continue to expose your right-wing, anti-people politics... [Please enlighten us as to what "anti-people politics" are, because nobody knows what the hell you're talking about. We're not sure how stopping Saddam Hussein from filling mass-graves and stopping communist axis countries like the USSR and China from nuking us is "anti-people".]

Mr. xxxxxx,
Thank you for your interest in the ongoing issue at our community college here in Warren County, NJ.
It is indeed unfortunate that something like this has happened. I do not appreciate the way that the instructor has treated our student nor do I agree with any of his positions.
I am not a member of the board of trustees of the college. I am a member of the county governing body which is similar to that of a county commissioner.
I am monitoring the situation closely and I am attaching my press release for your information.
Regards,
John DiMaio

Part-time adjunct instructor, can him, now. Then sue him. Take everything he has or ever will have. Make his life intolerable (legally, of course), until he "does the right thing".
