NEWBURGH, Ind. -- Nine days after Judy Lopez's home was seriously damaged by a tornado, her 93-year-old father's home about 50 miles to the south was destroyed by another twister.

"Talk about a double-whammy," Lopez, a school secretary, said Thursday.

Lopez's home in Newburgh was seriously damaged by the Nov. 6 tornado that killed 23 people in the Evansville area. She suffered some cuts, but was otherwise uninjured.

Since the tornado, she has been staying with her grown children in Evansville.

On Tuesday, another tornado struck Madisonville, Ky., destroying the home of her father and stepmother, Buck and Betty Egbert.

"We were here at school and started calling everybody," Lopez said. She couldn't get through, but finally got a call with word that her family was OK, but their house was not.

The devastation at her father's home in Madisonville is stunning, Lopez said. "My father said there's a mobile home in the front yard."

Lopez said her brother and sister live in the Madisonville area and are helping their father. She said she is thankful for the help of friends and family.

"Everybody's just been so helpful. Gifts, cards, prayers. It's just unbelievable," she said. "You don't think about those things until it happens to you."

I think their cousins should be digging a storm cellar.

Even though it is surely a complete coincidence I'm sure some claims adjuster somewhere is going to be pondering over this one and looking for some way to use this to the insurance co. advantage.
