First, the number of innocent people who actually go to trial for criminal offenses is practically zero.
Second, whether the defendant is innocent or not there is no reason to consciously subvert the legal process through dishonesty.
If he was truly innocent, then the defense attorney's job would be to redouble his efforts to to exonerate his client on the evidence. Not to use sneaky tactics to undermine the American legal system.
