Jay Rockefeller And The Run Of Logan's Writ
Captains Quarters ^ | Nov. 16, 2005 | Edward Morrissey

Posted on 11/16/2005 5:42:09 AM PST by conservativecorner

My new Daily Standard column comes out today, and I wrote about the stunning admission from ranking Senate Intelligence Committee Democrat Jay Rockefeller that he discussed American terror-war strategy with terrorist sponsor Bashar Assad. While the column does not call for a charge of treason, it does ask how Rockefeller can possibly avoid an indictment for a violation of the Logan Act:

If Rockefeller discussed war plans with Assad while the United States had begun military operations against global terrorist organizations, which Assad has been known to fund, surely it is a major breach of the senator's duties? The Logan Act, a piece of rarely enforced legislation, may be pertinent[.] I wrote this article before reading Bill Bennett's column in National Review. I would go farther than Bennett suggests; at the least, I think the full Senate should consider expulsion just on the basis of his admission. In going to a known supporter of our enemies in a time of armed conflict and admittedly advising Assad on our approach, he could not help but to give Assad and our enemies valuable insight into our war footing. Stupidity, in this case, is not a defense.

I am not willing to forget about this. I wonder if there is any truth in the reported rumor that Rockefeller's staff were overheard in a bar in a total panic about this revelation?

I'm sure the GOP will race to have him prosecuted. Gutless bastards will never touch it. Leahy leaked intel and lost his seat on the intel committee. His punishment was a seat on the judicial committee. If the GOP would actually grow a pair, I would be astounded.

He wouldn't have any trouble convincing the country that he is stupid. I hope it's not a defense.

Has the author considered running for the Senate? If not, why not? ;-)

I doubt our Senators will even censure Rockefeller, let alone expel him. But I agree that Rockefeller needs to go and would like to see an organized effort by freepers to encourage our Senators to take action.

They're all so busy being nice to each other that the country is falling apart, but they'll get their pensions and cushy jobs at the end, so, no problem.

I thought the author might have been dyslexic, and was going to discuss the "Writ of Logan's Run"

Nothing will happen to Rockefeller. He is a CFR goon, and untouchable.

Gave Saddam plenty of time to move his WMD to Syria. I wonder if anyone has looked into the chronology of the intelligence about movement of WMDs and the Rockefeller trip?
