FAIRBANKS -- An Alaska senator wants to lift restrictions on a Washington state refinery despite objections by a senator in the state.

U.S. Sen. Ted Stevens, R-Alaska, wants to lift a long-standing restriction on BP's Cherry Point refinery in Puget Sound.

Current federal law, Stevens said on the Senate floor last week, lets Puget Sound refineries obtain new dock permits only if any new gasoline production related to the project stays within Washington.

"I have introduced legislation to repeal this outdated and unfair law that results in limited supplies to other regions," Stevens said.

Sen. Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., opposes the idea.

The Cherry Point refinery can handle 230,000 bbl per day. Current tanker laws limit it to less than half that. Ted wants to remove the environmental based restrictions. I.E. lower gas costs!

They don't represent me either.

Typical of Washington state business hating socialists like Maria Cantwell. She was only pro-business when she was cashing in her stock options at Microsoft and Real Networks.
Same reason Boeing HQ is now in Chicago. Boeing got tired of being taxed to death by these limousine liberals.

Wouldn't that be an interstate commerce issue, so beloved by the Congress due to the "commerce clause" in the Constitution?

"I will do everything in my power to prevent giveaways to big oil companies that will increase the risk of a major oil spill in our precious Puget Sound," Cantwell said.

So, loosening a trade restriction is now a giveaway, eh? I suppose Ms. Cantwell doesn't care about poor gasoline purchasers unless she's offering big government giveaways to them, like food stamps.

"...and because they are environazis who want everyone riding bicycles."

Well that's exactly right because back in the 1970's when they invented "Earth Day," "Spaceship Earth" and "The Earth Island Institute," (triggered by that movement starting image of "Earthrise" over the dead moonscape) you would see pictures of Chinese "Coolies" riding their bicycles to their third-world Communist government job from their third-world Communist government provided apartment/cubicle!!!

In spite of the fall of the USSR and the Berlin Wall, they are determined to reverse that picture and create "fairness" on Earth by making those bike riders the formerly free and wasteful American public who need to learn the saving grace of uniform Communist poverty and devastatation!!! The Demonicrats are their useful idiots!!!
