Terror For Export

In Washington, D.C., last week, intelligence officials at a brainstorming session debated whether Al Qaeda's top commander had gotten his hands on nuclear materials. In Dublin, U.S. investigators met with counterparts to look into a financier allegedly funneling money to the Qaeda boss.

In Amman, Jordan, as three American-owned hotels mopped blood off their floors and hospitals tallied 57 dead from the country's worst terrorist outrage, no one doubted who was to blame: the same Qaeda bigwig. It wasn't Osama bin Laden who had everyone's attention. It was the leader of Al Qaeda in Iraq, Abu Mussab al-Zarqawi.

Zarqawi's jihadist views were even more extreme than bin Laden's, says Aburomman, who was jailed on political charges. "The Taliban were trying to win Afghanistan's seat in the United Nations, and he said, 'Why do they want to belong to an infidel organization?' "

If it hadn't been for us, they probably would have gotten it.

Us being the retaliation for 9/11. If they hadn't attacked, the USG may have enabled them to that stronger status.

Generally speaking the Taleban was populist and there were differences between the moderate and radical wings of the movement. (Is the Taleban a group, party or movement?) I find it fascinating the connections between the moderate Taleban wing and the US and had issued warning of 9/11 and called for a "mountain storm" to clear out AQ. Years later we launched that very Operation Mountain Storm!

Of course when I wrote populist, I never took the account of the women and girls under the yoke of Wahabi oppression.

This is a: 1)a flat lie made up from whole cloth, 2)a "D validity" b.s. rumor that should not be reported by a reputable news organization, or 3)yet another reason why we need a serious investigation of the leaks that have been coming from our "intelligence officials". The whole story reflects the new media talking point that Iraq has become the new training center and "safe haven" for mid-East terrorists (as opposed to say, Syria or Iran).
