PARIS (Reuters) - French security forces fired tear gas to disperse youths in Lyon on Saturday in the first sign of unrest in a city centre after more than two weeks of civil disturbances in outlying suburbs of towns and cities.
Ten people were arrested in France's second city after 50 youths attacked stalls and damaged vehicles, police and witnesses said, adding that the situation later calmed down.
After violence rose slightly on Friday, the 16th night of clashes, regional authorities for the first time declared a curfew for minors in Lyon, a city of 1.2 million southeast of Paris.
Rioting by youths angered by unemployment, racism and lack of opportunities has generally dropped in intensity since President Jacques Chirac's government announced emergency measures, including curfews, on Tuesday.
Thousands of French police patrolled central Paris on Saturday to enforce a ban on large gatherings and prevent the unrest reaching the heart of the capital, including targets such as the Eiffel Tower.
Police said they had monitored calls for violence on Internet sites and that potential targets included the Champs Elysees and the Eiffel Tower.
By 9 p.m. (2000 GMT) there were no reports of disturbances in central Paris, though Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy was heckled when he inspected security forces in the Champs Elysees by people who called for his resignation, witnesses said.

I'm glad they clarified this. The title made me think they may have fired it as each other. Seemed reasonable because they're french and it would have been a reason to run and all that.

We should reach out to them, address their complaints.
They are, afterall, other French citizens.
I recommend calling Jimmy Carter, to intervence and bring lasting peace. Bill Clinton, too. They brought peace to Israel.
They must understand the muslim mind, and must be respected as peacemakers by muslims and poor people the world over.
I remember in 1993, the last year I personally experienced Paris, the suburbs were already unsafe and unfriendly in many places, and muslim hoodlums had taken over some new shopping centers, and my family and friends there told me that as bad a Paris suburbs were then, Lyon was infinitely worse.
McMuslims.
Try bullets, lads. That's the only time the rioters are going to understand you mean business.

replace the tear gas canisters from the pump shotguns with double 'ought buck....then watch the rioting stop.
Someday, the world is going to have to face reality of the real threat and start a "War On Youths". It's the only solution to this problem!
