Cisneros Probe Not Yet Dead (Independent Counsel David Barrett)
THE WALL STREET JOURNAL (Excerpt) ^ | November 11, 2005 | JACKIE CALMES

Excerpts -

WASHINGTON -- When former Housing Secretary and Democratic star Henry Cisneros pleaded guilty in 1999 to lying to the FBI about money he paid years earlier to his mistress, newspapers said it marked the end of an independent counsel's investigation that was already four years old.

But reports of the probe's death were greatly exaggerated.

But the court also ordered Mr. Barrett to first make some "discrete deletions" from the draft report he submitted to it 15 months ago. That has stoked speculation that has more to do with the next presidential campaign than with Mr. Cisneros, the former secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development. For months, conservative editorialists and bloggers have suggested that the draft report contains information potentially embarrassing to another Clinton administration figure, former first lady and current New York Sen. Hillary Clinton, just as she is pondering a presidential run.

At issue are Mr. Barrett's findings after he expanded his investigation in 1997, with the approval of then-Attorney General Janet Reno, into additional allegations of Cisneros tax fraud, the Clinton administration's obstruction of justice, and improper Internal Revenue Service audits of Clinton critics' tax returns. Conservative columnist Robert Novak has called the Barrett investigation "the first independent probe, with subpoena power, of the IRS."

"... the court also ordered Mr. Barrett to first make some "discrete deletions" from the draft report ..."]

THAT'S RIGHT YOU LYING SACKS OF PUKE .. JUST CONTINUE TO COMMIT OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE .. WHILE YOU SMEAR REPUBS BECAUSE YOU "THINK" THEY'RE DOING IT!!

And so the CLINTON ADMIN CONTINUES IT'S TRASHING OF THE CONSTITUTION .. trying to cover their blasted rear ends.

These people are so corrupted and entrenched - we may never get our country back .. and it's beginning to make me really, really mad.

How absurd. Print the damn report. The last line in the article points out that the statue of limitations has expired so even those accused of wrong doing can not be prosecuted.

I don't look for an undedited version of this report to come out.

The current occupant of the White House seems intent on doing everything he can to make Hillary a viable candidate in '08. Bergers slap on the wrist, rehabing Bills reputation via his Dad, the supression of ANY information that may damage the Clintons.

The whole thing is just to weird for me to comprehend.

But, if there is embarrassing info, not necessarily illegal, he may wait until after the 2006 election to release it.......

It's because GWB comes from an old-school political family and understands there is really only one political party: the Insider Party.

Barret had the power to indict anyone involved in criminal acts. If he let the statute of limitations expire, then he didn't have enough. I think it's totally wrong, unethical even, to print a report smearing someones reputation with accusations of criminal wrongdoing. Even the Clintons. Especially the Clintons, since they always seem to turn that sort of thing to thier advantatge.

If the prosector has enough to indict, then indict. If not he should just shut the heck up about it.

Do all Independent prosecutor reports appear before an appeals court for review? Or was there a suit brought against the release of this report? Did I miss something?

Thanks for posting.

At least this is a little bit of news on the horizon about the Cismeros report. She has a picture saying that Fitzerald's investigation only cost $724,041 vs Barrett's report which is $23.6 million. I don't think that is correct, is it? I heard that Fitz's report was in the millions.

IMO, this reporterette (Jackie Calmes) is ALWAYS extremely liberal. Unfortunately, for me, she gets under my skin and I don't want her anywhere near me! As much as I like the editorial section of the WSJ, I don't like the front page reporting. Nausea city.

I think it's true; it's the second or third article I've seen that says basically the same thing. I can't post what I think here or will get banned. LOL
