France is holding ceremonies to commemorate the end of World War I amid tight security to prevent a fresh upsurge in street violence.
President Jacques Chirac reviewed troops and greeted war veterans in central Paris on the public holiday.
Police say the rioting that erupted two weeks ago is now less intense and 463 vehicles were set ablaze overnight - one-third of the peak total.

At this point, if you lived in one of those areas and your car hasn't been burned, do you just park it on the street with a gas can and a lighter. Its just a matter of time.

--- On the other hand, that is the same sort of thing that the Germans said after it took them 2 weeks to conquer Northern France.
In 1940, it only took another 3 weeks for Paris to surrender.
Will Paris hold out so long this time before its surrenders?
Anyone taking side bets?
BTW -- Remember that France declared victory in 1940 because Germany didn't occupy all of the country right away (remember the Vichy). Once an "accomodation" is reached and "dhimmi tax" is paid to the rioters, will the French declare a win?
