Joe Wilson's earlier mission to Niger
The American Thinker ^ | 11-07 05 | Clarice Feldman

Posted on 11/08/2005 12:23:44 AM PST by AliVeritas

Not much commented on is the fact that in 1999, according to the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, Joseph A. Wilson IV made another trip to Niger, a trip also paid for by the CIA and for which he was chosen upon the recommendation of his wife, Valerie Plame. The SSCI gives no explanation for that trip. And I don’t claim to know what it is about. One commentator, Macsmind, has his ideas. He suggests it was to

...broker what I believe were ongoing sales of Uranium from Niger to other rogue nations including Iraq. Of course detractors note that since France controlled the mines, this would be impossible, but the findings of the Oil for Food Scandal are shedding a differing light on COGEMA.In essence, what you had was a “cake” laundering operation, and the “washing machine” was the cache located at Al Tuwaitha. So long as the amount remained the same, no one would ever know. This is so simple (crooked cops do it with cocaine in the evidence room), etc.Of course there would be one caveat and this is key and not surprising. The IAEA would have had to have “blinked” once in a while. Scandelous? Yes, but that the IAEA might not have been so suspect if frustratated by the Bush Administration killing the Golden Goose, they showed their hand in October of 2004 by leaking the story of missing munitions at Al-Qaqaa. Make no mistake, the move was to defeat Bush and thus, get the ‘heat off” as a Kerry Administration would have canned any further scrutiny into the Oil for Food Scandal.

I wonder if this might explain the 500+ tons of unrefined fissionables recovered from Iraq's nuclear materials storage facility... and maybe even the extra refined materials that were not known prior to the invasion.

Is it possible that Wilson got himself "selected" for the mission to ensure a cover up of illegal sales? If the French controlled the mines, isn't it also the French who may have participated in the "fake" documents that were to prove the intel? I'm starting to smell a rat, now stay with me as I draw a parallel and maybe give others who are more into investigation some food for thought.

If you listen to Rush's show you often hear him talking about Insulating McNabb from criticism and he's right. He made statements that Donovan McNabb was not the end-all be-all of today's quarterbacks and that the media was portraying him as something more than just a quality QB - they were portraying him as the Black Elway or Montana - the first "true" pocket passing quarterback. When Rush called the media out, there was outrage, cries of racism spread through the MSM like a brush fire and Rush was let go from ESPN.

Rush makes the assertion that no matter what Donovan does from now own, the MSM will never be critical of him - even when there's rumors he was "tired" in the Super Bowl or when his team goes from NFC Champ to mediocrity. Look around, McNabb has be innoculated from everything. If you were an agent for other Black Quarterbacks it would be in your best interests to try to have similar comments made about your client - because they will never have to prove anything again. They will always be the darling and all of their failing will fall onto the shoulders of those around them.

Now, to Niger and Wilson. If you knew you were dealing in black market arms smuggling or "laundering" as they put it in this article and the CIA learned that the White House was getting intel from the british that some of this yellowcake was being sold or was missing. The VP then asks the CIA to check out the story. Conveniently, Valerie Plame gets wind of it (it is her territory), so she tells her husband the cats out of the bag and the CIA is going to have to investigate because Cheney is asking.

So Plame and Wilson concoct the scheme to get him to investigate the alleged intel. You send the man who is dealing the yellowcake to investigate yellowcake being sold. He signs no Non-Disclaimer, he writes no written reports, BUT he tells the CIA higher ups (not Valerie because she cannot be the overt conduit) that there is evidence that the Intel is true and that there's something there. The plot is hatched!

They know POTUS will use the Intel from the British backed up by what the CIA has learned from Wilson (Bush doesn't know where the Intel came from other than CIA as it is transmitted through Tenet). They wait for Bush to use the yellowcake as part of their efforts for the war. Once he does, Wilson changes his story to the public. Goes on the offensive in the NYTimes saying that he's the guy they sent to Niger and that he found nothing. He writes a book furthering this story. The media swarms all over the story and the template of "trumped up intel" begins the process of insulating the Uranium trnasactions from any scrutiny.

Then, Wilson uses his media contacts which he obviously had if he was published in the NYTimes to leak his wife's name to the press. I think Novak got wind of this and inadvertently screwed up the plan because he wasn't supposed to be the "outing" reporter. But the name is leaked to multiple MSM outlets to ensure that it gets picked up by someone, preferably the left media and not Novak or even Russert. Anyway, the story comes out that Wilson's wife is a CIA agent and that's why Wilson got sent to Niger.

Plame through whatever channels she had to work, get a complaint through the system that she was outed by the Bush Administration. CIA forward the request for an investigation to Justice and we know the rest.

Now, with everything that has happened with the media and the coverage. The yellowcake is not even in the picture. Their pushing the falsifying of intel, the leaking of a covert agent, the evil Bush adminstration, etc. If anyone EVER tries to investigate what REALLY happened in Niger, Joe Wilson and his wife are insulated. You will never be able to make accusations that they covered up sales or whatever because it will be playedi n the media as just another attempt to vilify the "noble" Joe Wilson.

The MSM is now Joe Wilson's cover for his crimes. The UN will never look into it because the MSM say the story was false, even though British Intel still stand by their story. So, just like McNabb is insulated from everything, so now is Joe Wilson and his wife.

Hopefully, the truth will win out in this one and we can know whether this was an elaborate scheme to cover up the sale of Nuclear components or simply the CIA's attempt to bring down a sitting President. Either way, Joe Wilson should be in cuffs, his wife should be on trial for Treason and the MSM should lose their broadcast licenses unless all senior level editors and involved reporters are replaced. I don't know the truth, but there was show that used to tell me, "the truth is out there".

Sorry so long. If I've tightened my tinfoil hat too much please tell me. If someone else finds my little conspiracy to be true or partially true, remember where you heard it. If it turns out to e way off base, forget where you heard it. Dannyboy!!!

That's a pretty maddog heavy charge. Macsmind better hope there's more than speculation behind it -- Wilson, with his media darling clout, is threatening suits to people who don't kiss his asperations.

I will ignore this until something emerges to back it up. Fuhevvinsake, the verifiable truth about Wilson's lying is hard enough to get through the media blizzard against everything Bush without adding cloak-and-dagger schtuff that is probably unprovable.

I agree that the whole "blame game" against the White House is a diversion and a ruse to protect someone, or something, else and the DemonRats history of lying and cheating and commiting crimes is self evident. You raise two interesting questions: Why is no one talking about the basic issue that started the mess (yellow cake)? And, is there anybody still investigating the truth of the basic issue?

"Is it possible that Wilson got himself "selected" for the mission to ensure a cover up of illegal sales? I'm starting to smell a rat, now stay with me as I draw a parallel and maybe give others who are more into investigation some food for thought."

Reading that paragraph reminded me of something I ran across today in my research on Chirac:

Chirac and Saddam Hussein
Perhaps Chirac's deepest friendship has been with Saddam Hussein.[30] The two first met in December 1974 when Prime Minister Chirac visited Baghdad to negotiate trade agreements, including the delivery of a nuclear reactor[31] later destroyed by an Israeli air raid in 1981. When Hussein visited France the following September—his only visit to a Western country[32]—then-prime minister Chirac said, "I welcome you as my personal friend. I assure you of my esteem, my consideration, and my affection."[33]

Resigning from government in 1976, Chirac founded the Rassemblement pour la Republique, which would soon become France's largest political party. There remain persistent rumors that Hussein helped finance the party, supported by allegations by Lebanese arms merchant Sarkis Soghanalian[34] and by various Iraqi politicians. In 1992, Saddam reportedly threatened to expose French leaders who had earlier accepted his largesse. "From Mr. Chirac to Mr. Chevènement, politicians and economic leaders were in open competition to spend time with us and flatter us," the Iraqi leader reportedly said. "We have now grasped the reality of the situation [of France's support for the 1991 Gulf War, a betrayal in Saddam's eyes]. If the trickery continues, we will be forced to unmask them, all of them, before the French public."[35] According to an aide, Chirac's friendship with Hussein was such that he would stop for a night in Baghdad whenever he traveled between Paris and Asia.[36]

Baghdad rewarded Paris for its loyalty. Throughout the 1980s, Iraq bought US$25 billion worth of arms from French concerns, including Mirage fighters, Super Etendard aircraft, and Exocet missiles.[37] The Iraqi government also picked French companies to build Saddam International Airport in 1982.[38] The relationship between Chirac and Hussein went beyond the norm in Franco-Iraqi relations. When Chirac again became prime minister in 1986 after a decade out of power, the relationship once more blossomed. The following year, reports surfaced that Chirac had offered to rebuild the nuclear reactor destroyed by Israel in 1981. In 1994, French oil companies Total and Elf won contracts worth billions to develop southern Iraqi oil fields upon the lifting of the sanctions regime.[39] When Chirac became president in 1995, his government began lobbying the United Nations to ameliorate if not lift sanctions imposed on Iraq after its 1990 invasion of Kuwait.[40] The United Nation's Oil-for-Food program, inaugurated in 1996, allowed the Iraqi government to sell its oil in order to purchase food, medicine, and other humanitarian supplies.[41] Saddam Hussein rewarded Chirac's government for his support. France quickly became Iraq's chief trade partner, a position it maintained until 2003.[42]

Hussein's investment in Chirac proved fruitful for the Iraqi leader. In 1998, when asked how patient he was prepared to be with Saddam Hussein, Chirac responded, "When it comes to humanitarian affairs, France's patience is limitless."[43] In the months preceding the 2003 Iraq war, French resistance to sanctions or military action against Baghdad grew. According to The Sunday Times of London, French officials regularly "kept Saddam abreast of every development in American planning and may have helped him to prepare for war."[44] In January 2003, a French company sold aircraft and helicopter parts to Iraq for its French-made Mirage fighters and Gazelle helicopters.[45] On October 26, 2003, rockets struck the Rashid Hotel in Baghdad during the visit of U.S. deputy secretary of defense Paul Wolfowitz. Subsequent investigation showed these to be French-made Matra SNEB 68-millimeter. The pristine condition of those left behind suggested manufacture after the imposition of sanctions.[46]

Several French officials benefited personally from their close ties to Baghdad. Documents unearthed in the wake of the Iraqi regime's collapse suggest that French officials accepted lucrative oil vouchers from the Iraqi government in exchange for diplomatic favors. According to the September 2004 Duelfer report, titled Comprehensive Report of the Special Advisor to the DCI on Iraq's WMD (Weapons of Mass Destruction), Iraq's former deputy prime minister, Tariq Aziz, said he "personally awarded several French individuals substantial oil allotments." Aziz told his interrogators that both parties understood that resale of the oil was to be reciprocated through efforts to lift U.N. sanctions or through opposition to U.S. initiatives within the Security Council."[47] Also, according to an Iraqi intelligence service memo, a French politician met in May 2002 with an Iraqi official and "assured the Iraqi that France would use its veto in the UNSC [U.N. Security Council] against any American decision to attack Iraq."[48]

Among the French officials indicted are several members of Chirac's inner circle, including Charles Pasqua, his former interior minister. A May 17, 2005 report released by the U.S. Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations concluded,

Documents created by the Ministry of Oil during the Hussein regime and interviews of high-ranking Hussein regime officials conducted by the Subcommittee provide substantial evidence that Charles Pasqua was granted oil allocations for 11 million barrels of oil from the Hussein regime under the Oil-for-Food Program in return for his continued support.[49]

Documents reveal that the Iraqi government also gave fourteen million barrels of oil to French businessman Patrick Maugein, whom it considered "a conduit to French president Chirac."[50] The French judiciary has begun investigating leads on the Maugein connection.[51] While citizens of many other countries are involved, few are as senior or as well connected to their governments as the Frenchmen involved. The level of oil-for-food contacts reflects both the high-level of Franco-Iraqi ties, as well as Saddam Hussein's belief that the Chirac administration was an easy target for a campaign of influence.

Obviously, the administration is too wrapped up in those ethics, refresher-courses to worry about the truth. I guess Republican's just have to learn to get along with the Dems and our beloved MSM.

Maybe Bush can invite Teddy K. over for another movie... or maybe just an episode of 'The West Wing'. Maybe if he's real nice, they'll let him resign... instead of watching Chris Mathews, Tim Russert, Katie Couric & Nina Totenberg, frog-march him out the White House front-door.

I'm fed-up...

I think the point is that the 1999 trip occurred during the Clinton administration. Joe Wilson and Valerie PLAME were married April 3, 1998. I believe in Washington, D.C..

What are the chances that Bubba and Hillary knew who Joe and Valerie were and what Valerie did? I'd say pretty good. Joe also retired from Public Service when he married Valerie.

Who was at the wedding? Is their a "secret" marriage certificate recorded? Was Christopher Wolf there? After all, he's Joe's best friend, attorney, next door neighbor, the FIRST person to show Joe Novak's article on HIS FRONT PORCH and they moved to their present neighborhood about the same time. Imagine that.

Joe's too much of an egomaniac not to have had an exclusive guest list for their wedding.

Best guess..Valerie and Jacqueline were best friends at one time. Not very unusual for a loose husband to wind up with the wife's best friend.

Joe Wilson has been a dedicated public servant for most of his life. So have all the top members of the Administration. They just differ on how the country should react to the Muslim threat.

Why is it necessary to go beyond that, to go beyond the facts? At worst, the Administration exagerated intelligence in order to justify a war they believed we must fight. At worst Wilson exagerated the dangers to his wife in order to publicize his views and himself.

Why do we have to demonize, to look for hidden motives and unsavory actions?
