PARIS Nov 7, 2005 — France will impose curfews under a state-of-emergency law and call up police reservists to stop rioting that has spread out of Paris' suburbs and into nearly 300 cities and towns across the country, the prime minister said Monday, calling a return to order "our No. 1 responsibility."

The tough new measures came as France's worst civil unrest in decades entered a 12th night, with rioters in the southern city of Toulouse setting fire to a bus after sundown and pelting police with gasoline bombs and rocks.

Rioters in the southern city of Toulouse ordered passengers off a bus and then set fire to it and pelted police with gasoline bombs and rocks. Youths torched another bus in the northeastern Paris suburb of Stains, national police spokesman Patrick Hamon said.

Asked on TF1 television whether the army should be brought in, Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin said, "We are not at that point."

Army? to do what? Surrender?

"France will impose curfews"

Or, as bill clinton might say, "It depends on what the meaning of will will be."

France surrendered to Germany in about 42 days. How long will they hold out this time?

Good idea. Clinton did it, maybe we should try it also.

I wonder if there's a TV set in hell where Hitler and Goebbels and Goering can watch what's going on up here on Earth. They're probably saying, "Finally, Paris IS burning!"

It seems to me that the French reaction has been one of tolerance. The only way to stop this orgy of violence is to deter it. Start shooting people. Bust some heads.

Right now it looks as if authorities are afraid of the mob instead of the reverse.

The only way to put an end to this circle of violence is for France go give land for peace.

It is what you get when you allow non-secular, third-world Muslims into your country and do not make them obey your laws. Now these bottom-feeders think they have the RIGHT to break laws, not assimilate into society and make demands upon the government.

You asked for it, you got it.

It's interesting to see the evolution of the Wikipedia article on the Paris riots (aka "2005 French civil unrest).

As Wikipedia users know, anyone may contribute to a Wikipedia article. Since there are many viewpoints on the Paris riots, the article has received the "neutrality disputed" flag, and there is a long and intriguing discussion among contributors and others.

Wow! A curfew. Those "youth demonstrators" better be pay attention because if they stay out past the curfew, they could be arrested.

"Right now it looks as if authorities are afraid of the mob instead of the reverse."

33,000 cars have been torched in riots in France so far this year...about 100 each night.

The news media thinks that this has only been going on since Ramadan, though...

In the meantime, Suha Arafat says nothing...Makes no calls for a letup.
