Washington, D.C.
After many, many months of being a punching bag, the punching bag is ready to fight back. Republicans believe it is long overdue.
On FOX NEWS SUNDAY this morning, Brit Hume reported that he was told at the highest levels that the White House was finally going to engage the Democrats. They will be coming out with a defense of the war in Iraq.
On this forum and around the blogosphere, Republican loyalists have been wondering why the President has allowed the Democrats to get away with calling him a liar. There is a wealth of evidence justifying the war, including 500 tons of yellowcake uranium discovered in Iraq in March of 2003 at the nuclear research center of Al-Tuwaitha. 1.8 tons was enriched. That is not Betty Crocker yellow cake. Hussein wanted a bomb. And yet, a majority of our population does not even know about that find.
The Democrats are doing exactly what they said they would do in their secret memo that was captured by a Republican staffer. They are using the war for political purposes, while they are pretending it is not for political purposes.
If the President will light a fire under his team, support for the war will increase, perhaps dramatically. The President owes it to the troops who have sacrificed and to those who are still out there risking their lives everyday. Step up, Mr. President.
Exactly. Unfortunately, the Repubs don't seem up to it.
I fear Virginia might be a casuality of the Administration's punching bag syndrome. New Jersey is probably a lost cause - but the Old DOminion was a Red State.
Thanks for the lead. Here are links to earlier FR threads, then links to case materials and my summary of what the cases represent.
Clinton-appointed Manhattan federal judge Harold Baer ordered Hussein and his ousted regime to pay $104 million in damages to the families of George Eric Smith and Timothy Soulas, both killed in the Twin Towers along with 2,790 others. "I conclude that plaintiffs have shown, albeit barely, 'by evidence satisfactory to the court' that Iraq provided material support to bin Laden and al Qaeda," Baer ruled.http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1005579/posts

I think the characterization that "plaintiffs HAVE shown" is misleading when taken out of context.
The judgement was a default judgement, meaning the defendant did not appear. The standard of proof applied in rendering default judgement was whether there was "a legally sufficient evidentiary basis for a reasonable jury to find for plaintiff." Plaintiffs are barred from recovery against the person, Saddam Hussein, based on concerns or reciprocal legal action (in general) being used against a President of the United States.
At page 15 of the opinion, Judge Baer begins the analysis of whether the cause of action is valid under the Flatlow Amendment. Robert James Woolsey, Jr. and DR. Laurie Mylorie were expert witnesses in the hearing.
The ultimate finding of the judge is that a jury COULD find for the plaintiff, based on the expert testimony and inferences relating to circumstantial evidence. The judge did NOT find true, any particular FACT asserted either by the experts or by the plaintiffs.
Denying payment to plaintiffs from funds in Special Purpose Account pursuant to the Terrorist Risk Insurance Act (TRIA) and particulalry "blocked assets" acounts belonging to Iraq.
The argument being that the suit against Taliban cannot hold, because Taliban is a government entitled to sovereign immunity.
Milosovic was a sanctions-busting pal of Saddam Hussein. Of course, so was France's Jaques Chirac. Not to mention it was a French NATO officer who was leaking intel on us to Milosovic. Perhaps we should have busted France and killed quite a few birds with one stone... ;-)
The leftist news media are Wartime traitors. They should all be strung up on tree limbs and left to dry. Many people are fooled aqbout the reporting on the war. The leftists in the news media love to report about Soldiers' deaths. "Another three were killed", "Two were killed here in a road side attack", "etc.", "etc.", and it goes on and on and on. And then they come out with stories about 4 or 5 soldiers have been charged with beating up I- raqi prisoners.
I say, "let the CIA have their secret prisons if it gets vital info", "Assault them, abuse them and degrade them as much as need be to get information", "Serve them pork and nothing else" , "and anything else that needs to be done to win the war on terror. God Bless President Bush and his administration for it is not just a war on terrorism it is also a war against the enemy within.
All I have to say is that it is about damn time someone in the WhiteHouse spoke up. The "rope a dope" defense sure as hell wasn't working. Hey, how about Senate and Congressional Republicans, where is their spine too!!!!
Speak up! Fight!
My fellow Freeper, it is not the whole CIA that is trying to bring him down. It is just the leftist cabal, the traitors within that Agency that are trying to destroy President Bush.

The thing about the uranium is that the IAEA was already aware of it and had tagged it.Which of course makes it harmless right?
And we are aware of Chinese missiles, so those are harmless.
