The New York Times cut patriotic comments from a letter written by a U.S. Marine before he was killed in Iraq.
The family of Cpl. Jeffrey Starr slammed the Times for selectively excerpting the letter he wrote to his girlfriend, intending for her to read it in the event of his death.
A November 2 Times story about soldiers killed while serving multiple tours of duty mentioned 22-year-old Starr, who was serving his third tour of duty when he died, and included this excerpt from his letter:
"I kind of predicted this ... A third time just seemed like Im pushing my chances.
In fact, the letter read in its entirety (emphasis added):
"I kind of predicted this, that is why Im writing this in November. A third time just seemed like Im pushing my chances. I dont regret going, everybody dies but few get to do it for something as important as freedom. It may seem confusing why we are in Iraq, its not to me. Im here helping these people, so that they can live the way we live. Not have to worry about tyrants or vicious dictators. To do what they want with their lives. To me that is why I died. Others have died for my freedom, now this is my mark.
Starrs mother Shellie told the New York Post that the "part of the letter about freedom and dying for it was much more important for him than what they wrote from the letter.

The NY Times sinks to a new low on a daily basis, but even for that anti-American rag, this selective editing of this Marine's letter must set some kind of new low-water mark, even for the NY Slimes.

The New York Slim hasn't sunk to any new low. They're a communist socialist liberal rag. Always have been and always will be. I wouldn't give them the honor of being toilet paper in anyone's bathroom

Well, it's not as if anyone reads that fishwrap any more......

This is low even by their standards. They have no shame.

This is a new low watermark. I don't think anyone can expect better from the NY Times, though.

And why would you not expect an anti-American propaganda rag to do such a thing. They, like the others in the left-wing anti-American media, have their agenda and it is to destroy President Bush and hand the country over to the terrorist.

I'd like for the family & girlfriend to know I am sorry for the loss, appreciate what their son did, and appreciate them for speaking out about the NYT and exposing them for the traitors they are. In speaking out they have preserved and honored this American Hero.
We as Americans should stand with them and demand the NYT print the letter in its entirety.

Low indeed. The excerpt published by the Times makes it sound like Cpl. Starr was weary and disillusioned. That is a complete inversion of his letter. The young man knew exactly what he was fighting for, and why he died. There can be few things lower than twisting his own words against him.
This should be spread far and wide on the web, but it would also be nice if Rush, Sean, and other would pick it up. If I were running a tv news show, I'd use it as part of my recurring "eye on the press" coverage.

The Times' journalistic reputation is totally undeserved.

Unsurprising "journalism" from the NYT.

Wish I knew something about printing. I would print up thousands of rolls of toilet paper, each sheet the front page of the NYT. What a great way to show one's contempt for that piece of junk paper. Just imagine, conservatives all over America using that toilet paper!

The NYT is worse than the old Pravda.
It has contaminated the MSM networks and feeds the garbage to countless liberal rags throughout the country that follow the old grey lady.
They (All of them)cannot believe the message of the dropping circulation numbers. They are pretending they still have power to spin the news to fit their views but everyday someone else wakes up and knows they are LIARS.
They are dying...Good riddance.

She wasn't angry, but disappointed that they got some facts wrong (when and how he died...) and really disappointed that they twisted his words. He was on his third tour over there!
I called Shellie after the show to give her an "atta boy". She's handling it admirably.
