US Republicans rebuff resolution demanding Iraq inquiry
14 minutes ago
The Republican majority in the House of Representatives rejected a resolution calling for a "substantive" investigation into abuses before and during the Iraq war.
The resolution was proposed by Democrats who have used increasingly aggressive tactics in Congress to draw attention to President George W. Bush's record on the war.
Republicans in the House defeated the measure by 220 votes to 191.
The Democratic resolution had called for an investigation into "the manipulation of pre-war intelligence", the role of Vice President Dick Cheney into Iraq's reconstruction, the leaking of the name of a CIA agent and abuses against prisoners at Abu Ghraib prison.
Democrats accused the Republican leadership in Congress of failing in their oversight of the Republican administration.

I don't know why the GOP in congress are afraid of an inquiry. It would be an opportunity to showcase how the CIA had become politicized during the Clinton Administration, and how the real crime behind the Wilson/Plame controversy was the effort of some careerists in the CIA to undermine the policy of the President of the United States.

it's also good that they are acting like the majority (for a change).

This is more than the usual Dem pre-election year shenanigans. They are bent on distracting people with this crap; there must be some nasty stuff coming down the pike that can make them look bad.

These are not Democrats. FDR, Truman and JFK were Democrats. These are Defeatists, pure and simple. Their goal is lose a war to make the President look bad. Too damned bad Americans are and will keep dying, whether it be in Iraq, Afghanistan or the streets of New York.

If it would be a fair inquiry with honest reporting, maybe. But the Dems and the media would spin it to try and make Bush look as bad as possible. It would be a losing move all around.

Why do we not have any patriotic flag waving supporters of our troops to take these people on? Tell them our soldiers are in the field, get behind them or shut up or face the consequences of not supporting our sons and daughters. We have one president stop running down America. Ask if they want to give Iraq to Al Queda, or back to Sadaam. Tell them removing Sadaam was a good thing, the MidEast is vital to the US, we were attacked, and thank God we had a president willing to take down our enemies. Call Wilson a liar. Ask why Plame allowed her husband to undermine US policy so publicly. Insist that we focus on Syria and Iran as the next objectives.
Why do I have to write this in a post but don't hear it from my leaders. Damn it, don't let the leftists turn the MidEast into Vietnam.

I'm in the middle on this. I think we should find out why our intelligence was so poor but I also think this is more of a witchhunt to try and mire the WH in scandal or investigations, rather than to really find the answers.

The Democratic resolution had called for an investigation into "the manipulation of pre-war intelligence", the role of Vice President Dick Cheney into Iraq's reconstruction, the leaking of the name of a CIA agent and abuses against prisoners at Abu Ghraib prison. Using the same tactics that lead to their crushing defeat in 2004. The Left is delusional and stupid beyond belief.

Why did the 'Rats wait until now to propose this resolution? If Bush "lied" years ago then this should have been done years ago.

Agreed. I'd like to hear more about Plames recommendation to use her husband to gather misinformation about Iraq nukes. And the subsequent attempt by Wilson to misrepresent this information for political advantage and Wilson's claim that his direction came from the White House and not his wife.
