Colorado man sues Home Depot after he was glued to toilet seat

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) - Hardware retailer Home Depot has found itself in a sticky situation, defending a lawsuit filed by a man who said the chain's Louisville, Colo., store ignored his cries for help after he fell victim to a prank - and was glued to a toilet seat.

Bob Dougherty, 57, of Nederland, Colo., said he became stuck to a bathroom toilet seat on which somebody had smeared glue on Oct. 30, 2003 and felt "tremendous panic" when he realized he was stuck.

"They left me there, going through all that stress," Dougherty told the (Boulder) Daily Camera newspaper.

"They just let me rot."

His lawsuit, filed Friday said Dougherty was recovering from heart bypass surgery at the time and thought he was having a heart attack. A store employee who heard him calling for help informed the head clerk via radio but the head clerk "believed it to be a hoax," the lawsuit said.

Home Depot spokeswoman Kathryn Gallagher said she could not comment on pending litigation.

The lawsuit said after about 15 minutes, store officials called for an ambulance. Paramedics unbolted the toilet seat and while wheeling a "frightened and humiliated" Dougherty out of the store, he passed out.

The lawsuit said the toilet seat separated from his skin, leaving abrasions.

"This is not Home Depot's fault," he said.

"But I am blaming them for letting me hang in there and just ignoring me."

Oh for cryin' out loud!

You can't find someone in a HD to help get a large item out of the overhead, or to check you out when you are ready to leave, yet this putz thinks they have people on toilet patrol in case someone gets stuck????

What a maroon.

Leave it to a lawyer and the activist judge to share in the fortune.

I don't care HOW funny some of you think this is, it's not. Think of it this way: Would you think it was funny if it was your Dad in there stuck to a toilet seat because some moronic teenagers wanted to play a cruel prank on him? Sorry to be such a spoil-sport, but this is just downright mean! Can you even imagine the embarrassment this man must have suffered?

"The lawsuit said the toilet seat separated from his skin, leaving abrasions."

Alas, a missed marketing moment for Goof Off located nearby on the shelves!

Lol! It's true it is not easy to get help at Home Depot. You have to track somebody down, which this man could not do.

I hope he wins a bundle.

I had a friend who was a resident MD at a local hospital around the middle of the last century. They brought in some poor woman who was stuck to a toilet seat. Her husband had painted it and they thought it was dry. Not dry enough. They called the fire department then an ambulance and finally had to load her up for a trip to the hospital. She got more exposure than she wanted.

Why would anybody sit on a toilet seat covered with a sticky substance?

I don't know about you, FRiend, but I look VERY carefully before I sit down in a public restroom.

HD could NOT forsee anyone putting glue on a toilet seat; heck, this putz may have done it himself to give him grounds for a lawsuit.

I'm not a HD fan, but I fail to see how it is their fault, or that the "victim" has signifigant damages resulting from the incident.

Bobbing for dollars from deep pockets, is my guess.
