"I know a smart, successful and very attractive woman that has time to make movies and commercials, have a child and has a very happy family, married to a great guy too!"

Ohhhhhh!!! NICE sharp needle!!! And stuck exactly in the right place---Mo Dowd's ego.

I can't think of anyone who has aged less gracefully.

Good article and lots of good comments, but we are looking at the symptom, not the disease. The original feminists were socialists laying the ground work for communism. Their goal was to divide and confuse American society. Same with the race baiters and poverty pimps. The drive to eliminate God is also part of the whole movement to fragment and set groups of our society against other groups.

It is an old ploy but they still use it and it still works, for awhile. If we don't recognize the enemy for what it is, the enemy, they soon won't have to deceive. They will control.

Sure. I hate country music, but I must say the majority of female (and male also) country stars are like normal people. It disproves the Hollywood hype that stars have to be wierd, name their kids f'ed up names, and prostitute their children for the cameras to be really successful.

I agree. We men should STOP LISTENING AND TAKE THE WHOLE THING BACK!!

Stop listening, starting with Maureen Dowd and Katherine Parker.

Girls are made to look at, not listen to.

Wish you the best with yours. I too have four sons 12 and under (three from my late wife and one with my current one).

Wow! Eight kids. That's fantastic. My current wife wants to have at least three, perhaps four children in addition to the older three from my late wife, so that will give us around 6-7 children. I hope to end up with two girls and a whole bunch of boys!

Good luck to you and your family, too. I never expected to have all these boys, but it's certainly been the most interesting thing I could have done :-).

GAWD, I read this article and see that Dowdy Dowd is pontificating on her own looks, charm and intelligence, and how bewildered she is that Michael Douglas dropped her for Catherine Zeta-Jones. MoDo is simply having sour grapes.

When "brilliant' hertosexual women fell for the lesbian driven women's movement forty or so years ago it might arguably be said that a few points could be deducted from their IQs.

I am surprised she got the book publihed. More and more, Dowd's wrtiting is simply an expression of her angst over being unappreciated by the men who have dumped her.

She tries to make it seem a societal problem, but it's really just her. Note to Dowd: "It's not us, it's you".

Deep down, I've found that most women want to be full time moms at home with the kids if they can.

Admittedly I live in an area that is very socially conservative and we have a lot of stay at home moms. My mom-in-law is a stay at home mom. She works the first couple hours to get her chores done and has the rest of the day to herself. Likewise I know lots of stay at home moms who run about the same schedule. Why would anyone in their right mind want to give that up to go into the office and fight the jerks out there?

My daughter will never call you. She was raised to be an old-fashioned girl; she was forbidden from calling guys. She spends a lot of time protecting her 40 year old female boss from the losers she meets on the internet. Daughter is smart, thin, georgeous, virgin 20 year old - has horses; doesn't need guys....yet.

Son is 23 years old, college grad, tennis player. In his second year of a good-paying job with a big-name company. Considering law school. Has a nice girlfriend, but not quite ready for committment. Will make a great dad.

Been with current hubby since 1974. I've had a career as an HR manager with same employer for almost 30 years.

It's been a pretty good life....

I'm definitely wanting children too. Not quite that many, though. I guess I'd want one son in order to pass on the family name, but I really want two daughters. I guess it's kind of weird for a 24 year old single guy, but I already know what I would like to name my daughters, should I ever find a nice woman who is willing to marry one such as myself.

But something vital and poignant happens when one's own interests become secondary to the more compelling needs of children.

You grow up. In the process of sacrificing your infant-self for the real baby, you stop obsessing and fixating on the looking glass. Instead, you focus your energies on trying to raise healthy boys and girls to become smart, successful men and women.

Outstanding read, and funny, I thought I'd coined Devolution last night...

However, if anyone ever calls me a metrosexual or similar for feeding and diapering my daughter..I'll kick their deadbeat A**
