Now why didn't WE think of that? All we need is a congressional declaration to rid ourselves of our problems! Those crafty Communists - always one step ahead of free people.

/sarcasm.

Wonderful.

I agree: We should declare that the US is 100% literate, and quit spending all that money foolishly on NEA_dominated school indoctrination. (Er, classes.)

After all, we've been trying for 100 years to get everybody to read and write.

And it hasn't worked yet.

/sarcasm

Nah... Their declaration was full of howling mistakes both grammatical and orthographical, was stylistically abominable, liberally seeded with typos and typeset the wrong way.

"Declares Venezuela Free of Illiteracy"

Great. Free of illiteracy and a population illiterate about freedom.

So classic. All that is necessary for something to come into being is for the government to declare it so. It worked for Stalin, didn't it?

But if Venezuelans are going to to be allowed to read only what Huge Ego Chavez wants them to read, why bother?

Funny, many people ask the same thing about Hugo.

"Earth doesn't have homeless. We don't have the problem. Well, yes, there are some displaced people, here and there, but they've chosen to be in their position. They're either lazy or they're criminal or they're mentally unstable."

"They can't get a job."

"Earth-gov has promised a job to everyone that wants one. So, if someone doesn't have a job, they must not want one."

"Poverty?"

"It's the same."

"Crime?"

"Yes, there is some, but it's all caused by the mentally unstable. And we've just instituted correctional centers to filter them out at an early age."

"Prejudice?"

"No, we are just one happy planet."

"And when exactly did all this happen?"

"When we rewrote the dictionary."

(Best show ever)

And on that very same day,his good buddy Robert Mugabe declared Zimbabwe to be free from hunger.

Ain't it wonderful what revolutionary zeal can accomplish!
