CA: Governor says election is crucial to continue reforms (Town Hall feedback thread)

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. (AP) - Defending his special election before an audience of voters, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Monday said his "year of reform" ballot initiatives are crucial to continue the changes he started after taking office two years ago.

He cast the Nov. 8 election as the next step of the 2003 recall election that propelled him to office.

Voters, he said, sent him to Sacramento to rebuild the state's economy and fix a moribund political system. After 400,000 new jobs and billions in new revenue, it was time for him to enter Act II, he said.

"Now is the year of reform," he said. "But I need the people's help. I need your help."

The 90-minute forum in the east San Francisco Bay area city of Walnut Creek was the first time Schwarzenegger sat for an extended period of time to field unscripted questions from an audience not chosen by his campaign staff.

His comments came after a leading Democrat and a nurses union official criticized his attempts to control state spending, change the rules for raising union money, reform teacher tenure rules and redraw legislative districts.

their pathetic prepared preambles to their equally stupid questions

You mean this:

"a way to blame teachers… This simply is divisive… corporations outspend unions 13 to one… He wants a football field with only one team… these people are bad, they are evil. It is not true," Perata said. "They are representing their memberships a political power grab by the big corporations... a two-party system - the very, very rich and the very, very poor"

Yada, yada, yada...

["It's just to spend no more than we have." ] And you have a problem with that.

No. I don't. But current law already requires that they spend no more than they have. This is mainly a smokescreen to get more borrowing authorized.

Are you for increased taxes?

No. I am for cutting spending, something that Arnold has shown no will to do, and has been vocal about wanting to increase. Prop 76 facilitates increasing spending, not reducing it.

Zackly. Every one of those "questioners" had a prepared statement that preceded his or her prepared question.

I especially enjoyed the way Rinold handled the last guy's melodramatic performance in asking his question. "You should be an actor."

Classic.

You are trying to make a moutain out of a molehill and downplay a moutain into an anthill, even willing to let the Dems destroy CA, just to not allow Arnold to succeed in revitalizing California.

How sad that there are people living IN CA, with so much hate against Arnold that they are willing to destroy their own state, just to express their hate. Even willing to agitate FOR the Democrat agenda, just to get their "revenge".

No different, than when during the riots people burned down their own neighborhoods to "get back at society".

Who is the one who is full of hate, FO?

Those that can not win every battle and then cry and only seek to blame others? You could learn something from Tom , considering as you now hug him so tightly for your own purposes but wouldn't during the Recall.

You are pathetic in your public display making such childish comments about revenge , btw.

The myopia you suffer from obscures facts that you will not admit exist. Go ahead, celebrate your victories of a agenda you don't realize you push all too willingly, and giving you the little benefit of the doubt I can, likely unknowingly or maybe not.

Sorry, but no cigar again, FO.

FR is for Conservatives, not moderates who masquerade and would have many believe they are conservative too.

allow Arnold to succeed in revitalizing California
---
so far we have doubled our debt , back pedaled on blowing up the boxes, you know the drill.

If that is the beginnings of his succeeding, I'd hate to see a sequel.

Still crying in your beer, because Bustamante lost?

He would have made such a SPLENDID governor. (/sarcasm)

Arnold calls 76 spending control, but starts with an unsustainable baseline by havign pumped it up with advance borrowing. He intends to follow that act with borrowing another $60-70 billion for infrastructure spending.

Here is my analysis of the Legislative Analysit's Opinion on Prop. 76 (post 34).

The grovelnator is putting California on a third whirled cycle of debt and restructuring. He calls it living within our means, just as he called HIS budget, which increased spending by 11% with borrowed money, "cutting up the credit cards."

Obviously you prefer the current status quo where we are spending $1.07 for every $1.00 we get.

---

Who is proposing and signing the budgets that reflect that ratio?

My point, as you well know, is that "intentions" don't count, RESULTS do.

The result of voting for McClintock put Arnold's election in jeopardy and helped Bustamante, by splitting the Republican base.

Now, voting AGAINST the propositions which Arnold, Republicans, and conservatives support, and Democrats oppose, help the Democrats. It doesn't matter what reason you think you have the bottom line is that you are voting the way the Democrats want you to.

The communists used to call people who helped them for ideological, "pure" reasons, useful idiots, who were willing to dig their own graves, just so they could feel "oh so pure, high and mighty" while doing it.

And thru your perverse logic, you claim some are here.

In retrospect, if Tom hadn't run, the Recall likely would not have passed either.

Then who would you have to blame for our predicament besides conservatives on a conservative forum?

Oh wow, your tune likely wouldn't change, huh?

That makes you a broken record, singing the same old song over and over again.

btw, if you get all your preferred props to pass except prop 76, is that a success or a failure in your book?

Then you voted for more spending, impending bankruptcy, and over 50% MORE DEBT!!!
