I have an idea I wonder what others think of it.

Pass legislation which states that both parents of a baby born in the USofA MUST be citizens of the US or have a valid Green Card (not just a worker's card) for the child to become a US Citizen at birth. If the mother is not a citizen and doesn't have a Green Card and the father does, the child is NOT a US Citizen, but a citizen of the Country of the mother of the child. If the father is not a citizen or doesn't have a Green Card but the Mother is a citizen or does have a Green Card, then the child will become a US Citizen IF the mother requests that the child become a US Citizen AND the father agrees.

Any comments???

Good point. I agree except that at least one parent has to be a citizen and the other parent has to give his and her consent. For a child to become a citizen just because he is born in this country is absurd. The terrorists must be doubling over with laughter at this stupidity.

a. either parent must be US citizen for child to get U.S. citizenship (no green card, etc)
b.Citizenship benefits don't accrue until 18th b-day
c. prior to b., citizen (to be) is governed by laws applicable to parents.

hmmmm, sounds a lot like the way the Israelis calculate Jewishness. I like, if both mother and father married to each other are not US citizen's or here on valid immigration papers and have filled to become US citizens the any children lose that birthright bonus of US Citizenship.

I agree with your plan, but unfortunately the President doesn't. He's planning a borderless, one-big-happy-family nation from Canada to Mexico. He's never bothered to talk to us about it first.

Yeah, idea sucks.

I am an American citizen married to a non US citizen, both my children were born in an American military hospital while I was working for the US government. Everything is not cut and dried.
