How the Media is Fighting for Our Enemy
HUMAN EVENTS ^ | Oct 20, 2005 | Todd Manzi

Posted on 10/20/2005 12:30:22 PM PDT by mdittmar

President Bush’s highest priority is fighting the War on Terror. His success or failure is more crucial to the future of our country than anything else this country has faced in the last sixty years. It may be one of the top ten most important events in the history of the United States. The probability of our victory is influenced by the fact that President Bush must fight the war on two fronts.

The first front of the war involves defeating the Islamic radicals in combat. The second front of the war is for “hearts and minds” and it is being fought in the media. President Bush has a message and the Islamic radicals have a message. Both sides are fighting for media share to shape public opinion with goal of influencing a political outcome for the war. Our enemy understands that if they can defeat us in the media, they will not have to defeat us on the battle field.

On October 6th President Bush gave a speech that reiterated our goals and identified our enemy’s goals. It outlined the big picture strategy of the enemy and explained how we are defeating them. Bush told us how and why we are winning the War. He once again explained why the war is so important. Make no mistake this speech broke new ground. What President Bush said was news.

The speech was mostly ignored by the media. What wasn’t ignored was treated with skepticism. The President was unsuccessful in his attempt to get his message out.

Five days after the speech the Administration released an intercepted letter written by al-Zawahiri intended for al-Zarqawi. This important letter between the leaders of the Islamic radicals confirms what President Bush said in his speech regarding their goals.

In one of the most interesting sentences in the letter al-Zawahiri gives his thoughts on the importance of the media. He writes:

“I say to you: that we are in a battle, and that more than half of this battle is taking place in the battlefield of the media.”

The speech and the letter are significant developments in the War on Terror that might shape public opinion of our efforts. Both were ignored.

Two days after the release of the letter the President had a video teleconference with some Troops in Iraq. Once again President Bush attempted to convey the important message contained in his speech and our enemy’s letter.

The video teleconference got a lot of media attention. The media devoted lots of ink and blasted the air ways with news of the teleconference. The theme of the media’s coverage was that Bush staged the teleconference. The media promoted their own propaganda that President Bush nefariously used members of our military as P.R. props. The media went out of its way in an attempt to harm the President and once again ignored the important message of success we have had toward reaching our strategic goals. The fact that the enemy is losing the war was not reported.

The speech on October 6th and the captured letter released on October 11th are an important positive development in the first front on the War on Terror. The actions the media took on October 14th are an important negative development in the second front of the War on Terror. The media moved beyond ignoring President Bush’s message and they attacked it. In al-Zawahiri’s “battlefield of the media” our press detonated the equivalent of a road side bomb that can only hurt our objectives and help our enemy.

Conversely, during the month of August the media protected Cindy Sheehan’s message. They did not report on the staging of her events. There was no mention about the help she was getting from radical groups. They edited all of outrageous rhetoric Sheehan spewed. They didn’t tell us that her supposed reason for protesting--to get a meeting with the President--was a fraud because she had already had a meeting. Our media filtered and packaged the Sheehan coverage so that her anti-war message would make the greatest impact.

The Commander in Chief, the Generals, the officers, the troops, the Iraqis and the enemy all understand that the only way we can lose this war is if the people of the United States lose their will to fight it. Our media seems to be doing everything it can to slant its coverage of the war in an attempt to erode public support and hinder President Bush from reaching his well defined objectives. Islamic radicals are losing badly on the combat front of this war and are being kept in the game solely because of their powerful ally; the United States media.

Does the MSM have any idea how much we hate them?

President Bush has a message and the Islamic radicals have a message. Both sides are fighting for media share to shape public opinion with goal of influencing a political outcome for the war.

Note: The Islamic radicals are winning this battle.

Americans are allowing the so called press to ignore the part of the story they do not support and print only what they, their democratic leaders, and the enemies of the Republic allow. I am sometimes ashamed to have such people called Americans. They are only Americans for convenience. It is convenient for them because they can hide behind the First Amendment. They could not do that in Soviet Russia, Red China, North Korea, Cuba or now, Venezuela. They would have been put up against a wall and shot for speaking against the government.

They can lie, cheat, change, leave out, add in, edit, anything they want, to slant a story their way. Then Americans eat it up. We are simply becoming a nation of stupid individuals, leaning on government for our way of life, allowing socialists, communists, atheists, and homosexuals to lead our lives. God, County, what is right, have been pushed off the table. And, Americans don't care.

Americans want it easy. They want instant gratification. They want their MTV, their plasma TVs, instant coffee, instant sex, porno movies, booze, drugs, sex movies, fast cars, handouts, no work big pay, easy, do nothing life styles, with lots of sporting events, but never getting their fat @$$e$ off the couch, pizza, hamburgers, french fries. American simply doesn't care anymore. America as it was founded, as it was just 50 to 60 years ago, is dying. It is dying fast. In 20 years, America will not look like it was. This country is going down the toilet of history. And, Americans don't care.

They are pro-homosexual, anti-God; they are pro-public sex, anti-teaching kids to not have early sex; anti-military, pro-owls; anti-anything worth working or fighting for, pro-sit on their fat asses.

And, if you don't agree, that is okay with me. I still think the Republic is in grave danger. On life-support, dying from the lack of attention it so richly deserves. Yes, Bush got reelected. 61 million or so voted for him. But, the sad part of that election is, and remains, 56 million voted for Kerry. If that does not scare the bee-jeevers out of you, nothing will. 56 million enemies of the Republic living in the Republic, protected by the Republic, by a small amount of Patriots, who are doing a job of protecting those 56 million while that 56 million hates and detests them.

Yup, something to be so proud of.

I disdain writers and politicians who use "islamic radicals" to down-define the fact that at least 70% of islamics make no bones about the fact that they share the koranic idealogy and goals.

They don't really care. They know they are representatives of a superior enlightened part of humanity whose job it is to make the rest of the unwashed understand how to live. Their contempt and hatred for normal Americans is overwhelming and their distaste for their people and culture now so great that there is no enemy we will ever fight that they won't maintain a 'critical distance' between themselves and US forces.

If World War 2 were refought they would produce defeatist stories and manage to get reporters 'embedded' in Axis capitals that would be played like a cheap flute by Dr. Goebbels.

Exactly what I was thinking. The NY Times would have praised Hitler and lambasted Patton. The Times is traitorous scum. It is far to obvious that they hate their own nation.

Guys, anyone has statistics on the social and ethnic composition of the US Armed Forces. I don't know how to counter the liberal crap about how the poor and the minorities are used as the cannon fodder because they have no othe options in life. I remembers it was debunked for the Vietnam War.

Well said, but will likely fall on "deaf ears".
You have somewhat covered the terrorists "game",but managed to perpetuate a largely held "notion" among many citizens that Iraq is not a war and that "terror" is simple criminal activity. Further, you've totally failed to connect all of the terroristic activity that preceded 9/11 which proves that a global war of terror has been underway for a long while and that the principals not only include old enemies but also our closest allies as well.
Thus, while your coverage of media transgressions is OK,it actually damns them with faint praise. Lies or biased news accounts that hardly rise to the level mischief , while in actuality, combine to constitute sedition.
None of these transgressions are mere infractions at a cricket match...they represent and support our deadly enemy. We are locked in a new and different world war that is going on in front of our eyes now.
Thank you for your support. Now: 'Kick it up another Notch!"

Great post. Given that many public schools teach that these United States are not worth defending, it is a wonder that we find the brave men to fight in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Is it not time to make MSM accountable? We should keep them in court defending their actions!
If they lie or distort there must be something that can be done to shut them down while they prove themselves and defend their actions in a court of law. Their behavior is treasonous and war must be declared on them.
State your contending opinions based on facts but stop the lies, half truths and spinning.
I have stopped reading and subscribing to magazines like "Weeknews" for example. If they lose everyone that is offended by their campaign to destroy the country it may work. Pressure should be placed upon their shareholders and the advertising revenue providers! Its time to do something before they complete their destructive mission!

Mostly caucasions. Few minorities in this all-volunteer army.
All that "race" stuff is porch-monkey rhetoric.

56 million voted for Kerry

BRAVO for your excellent post!

To think that so many bought the Kerry Koolaide was indeed disturbing! His media cohorts claimed he won every debate, covered up the truth about his ultra liberal record and tried to destroy the Swift Vets for pointing out what a phony Kerry is!

Thank God Bush won!

If it was WW2 a large chunk of the press would be in jail for giving "aid & comfort to the enemy"
