Councilman: Feds Are Targeting Me Because I'm White by KYW's Mike Dunn
Embattled Philadelphia city councilman Rick Mariano -- who is likely to be slapped soon with corruption charges by federal prosecutors -- says he's an easy target, in part because he's white.
7th District city councilman Rick Mariano (right) was surrounded by reporters before the start of Council’s regular session -- its first meeting in three weeks.
Surrounded by reporters, Mariano said US attorney Pat Meehan is able to go after him because he's an easy target:
"They’re going after me because they can."
When asked to elaborate, Mariano brought up race, and pointed to an African-American reporter:
"It wouldn’t be all right for them to go after Vernon Odom because of the color of his skin. Or for his pigmentation. But because of (my) lack of pigmentation and because I’m a blue collar guy, it’s a little easier to go after me. I’m not saying they’re doing that. But I’m saying I make a pretty good notch on the belt of the US attorney."

What you say is probably correct, but that doesn't mean his statement is incorrect. There is a double standard. Especially for politicians of "color".

Did you just see the news? My son called me quick turn on Channel 3. Mariano is on top of Ben Franklin in the observation deck. They think he might jump. Street is up there now with the police commissioner.
ABC6 is on it now ... WTH???
He was in the City Hall Tower, threatening to jump ... they talk Mariano out of jumping and they are on their way down now

October 20, 2005 - There is word that Rick Mariano had threatened to commit suicide. Mayor John Street had talked down Mariano from the City Hall tower.

How long before he says it's Bush's fault, like Street did when they found the bug in his office? Let's see if Fast Eddie rushes in from Harrisburg to rally to his side...but when he runs, he'll get 110% of the vote!! LOL!
He's the DemocRAT who got caught a few years ago using his city council staff to make deliveries for his wife's cookie business. Of course, all he had to do was say "sorry" - the RoboRats in Philly vote in whoever the government-union complex decides should win.
