Lots of citizens of the Netherlands are not "Dutch". Many are Indonesians, and Indonesia has the largest Mussleman population in the world. The Netherlands had some terrorist problems years ago, with the origin of the terrorists being another of their former colonies, although memory fails me on the details.
Thanks. These are apparently of Moroccan descent
Don't forget the Aussie's...
We have a man on the ground in The Netherlands!
Take care and watch your back. Look guys and girls, see who I found...
'The national prosecutors office said the main suspect, Samir Azzouz, 19, was allegedly trying to buy automatic weapons and explosives "probably to carry out an attack with others on several politicians and government buildings". '
Oh no, there is no possibility of terrorist actions in the Netherlands. After all, Holland is a peace loving country which opens its borders to people from all over the world and, of course, only the good people come to Holland, the ones with the green hair, purple hair, tatooes over 80% of their body, etc. Heck, in Amsterdam, anyone can buy sex or marijuana, the Dutch love people and people love the Dutch.
No there could not be a terrorist problem on the soil of the Netherlands!/sarc off
Thanks.
Dutch parliament buildings hermetically sealed by police!! A great Alblum by Mike Greene ["Hermetically Sealed"]. I dug it out after seeing those words and it still sounds wonderful.
Taking care...watching...
The Hague - Centrum/Binnenhof was an interesting place to be yesterday morning 10 am-ish to 1:30 pm-ish...
I am not quite clear on whether I am traipsing around on the trail of world events, or whether they somehow follow in my little wake, but...
I was in Moscow, Russia in October 2002, out in front of the theatre that was playing the German musical "Nord-Ost" on the afternoon the theatre was seized by Chechen rebels during a matinee.
I actually fended off a fairly persistent young beauty who was trying very hard to sell me a seat to that matinee," Oh sir, eet ees a verry femm-uss moo-zical. You have hearrrd of eet, yes?! Nord-Ost - you know theees one? You arrr too-reest, yoo mahhst see eet! I make forr yoo verry good price on thees teecket..!"
My Christmas/New Year's trip there was not uneventful for me, but there was no frisky terrorist activity while I was there.
The next summer, I was again in Russia throughout June - departing less than a week before the "Krylla" {wings} Rock music festival at an airport outside of Moscow. You know, the one where two Chechen "Black Widows", so-called, showed up and blew themselves up standing in line with dozens of innocent youth?!
I was in Moscow again during February of 2004, leaving for an outlying republic after attending to some business in the big city - one day later, the bombs were exploded on the Moscow Metro subway system, near the "Avtovokzal" stop along the grey/silver line in south/southeastern Moscow. These explosions were potentially much more dangerous than they turned out to be - not that they qualified as a walk in the park.
I have stayed away from Russia for awhile, but Beslan happened anyway...
What more Dutch in the know fear is an attack targeting the Harbor area in Rotterdam.
Rotterdam is the world's largest harbour - and thus is of uttermost importance to the inland portions of central and northern Europe.
Moreover, it has been and remains the trans-shipping and staging point for most of the materiel the US has utilized for our troops in Iraq. Those tanks, Bradleys, Hummvees, and other machines of our war effort were containerized, shipped, unloaded by massive cranes directly onto rail cars and sent to Iraq.
Relatively few American citizens are probably much aware of this, but the Dutch Leftists certainly were, and they were out in force carrying "Yankee Go Home" signs and chanting slogans standing alongside the rail lines {separated by fences, of course}.
A container which has unwanted and uninspected cargo - of a potentially lethal sort -could well have already been placed in any one of several major strategic ports across the world, to the detriment of the West, and civilization.
But the possibility - indeed even the likelihood - of Rotterdam as an appealing target is difficult to overstate.
Those who are unfamiliar with Europe's geography - take a look at Rotterdam on the Netherlands' coastline just north and west from Antwerp...
Now look at the entire interior of Europe...Take a worst-case type of scenario, such as a suitcase nuke, a "dirty bomb", or perhaps a series of bomb or shoulder-launched rocket attacks that succeed in disabling numerous ships at once, and blocking partially, or crippling entirely the traffic in and out of the harbour...
This would effectively hinder a primary conduit for American military supplies, severely damage the rapid and direct distribution of consumer goods both incoming and outgoing for Europe, in particular, Luxembourg, Belgium, most of southern/southeastern Germany - even into Niedersachsen, much of northern France, Poland {a staunch ally in the WOT}the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Switzerland, Austria, northern Italy {another strong ally among weak-kneed Europansies}, interior Spain.
Think the other European ports would take the overflow? As much as they might want to for the sake of their already overfattened wallets, fear of retaliation, inadequate resources, and sketchy security would really limit their ability and their willingness to do all necessary to mitigate the immediate or long-term effects.
Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Napoli, and others would probably take some action, handle some overflow, but you don't just outright replace the largest, busiest single port in Europe - let alone the world.
That is reason enough for half the security in all of Netherlands to hold a perimeter around all of Rotterdam during this vaunted "ramadan offensive" we've heard so much ballyhoo about.
Not that other ports or people are undeserving of protection. Amsterdam is not chopped Gouda either! But Rotterdam is the great big maraschino cherry on top of the biggest, wealthiest damned ice cream sundae in the world, and the US trans-shipping connection makes it really attractive for al qaeda and all their wanna-be sleeper cell copycats.
I am not inviting disaster, nor engaging in prophetic prognostication...Certainly if civilians can reason through these targets and their risks, so can intelligence professionals in the US, Netherlands, and other nations.
The open question is: Is there a "needle" in the haystack, and can they find it, if so? {Are they, in fact, searching diligently?}
I want to have reasons to be optimistic, but unfortunately, Netherlands has some of the most liberal immigration policies in the entire world {more on that at a later date - please remind me!} and they have a population of 1.3 million unassimilated muslims in a country of only 16 million people. That's damn near ten percent, folks.
I'd like to tell you that cars file through inspection booths going into and out of Germany, Luxembourg, Belgium - all bordering the Netherlands...and that those Moroccan mooslimes are accorded special attention and consideration.
But I drove from den Haag to Hannoverlast weekend, and back to Den Haag earlier this week averaging 135 km/hour, and the only stops I made were of my own accord at rest stations along the autobahn and schnellweg...Security at that border is an imaginary construct - sort of like the Arizona/Mexico border of the U.S., only we at least make the pretense of trying to stop and check a few people now and again.
I'm watching MY back over here, Freddy, but I would sure like to know -
WHO THE HE** IS WATCHING THEIRS??!!

Did you visit New Orleans earlier this year? ;o)
WOW, AAC...thanks for the reports. You're in my prayers.
Thanks for the ping Fred!

LOL! You're wicked!
Dutch parliament buildings hermetically sealed by policeDo they fear a ricin gas attack?
Dutch parliament buildings hermetically sealed by policeWhat if the poison gas bomb explodes inside the hermetically sealed building?
It will be like Mars Attacks!
The Dutch seem to take the muslim threat very seriously. Good. The rest of Europe should start to do the same. Otherwise in 50 years the seat of western culture could be a muslim hell-hole.
Heh-heh!
So am I {but then many already suspected that} but no - even I am neither brave nor foolish enough to step across the doorsill of the "Big Sleazy"...
Come to think of it though, I took an extended walking tour of Amsterdam yesterday - including the ballyhooed "coffee shop"/red light district around Felo park - just a scant few streets from the Central train station, Royal palaces and residences, and ironically, directly across the street from at least one very old and lovely church {I guess even pimps and "pro's" need G_d, ehh?}
No - I did not stop for any "coffee", nor "window shop" for any "wares"...I wouldn't be caught dead buying something other than tulip bulbs, or carved wooden shoe souvenirs in that so-called neighborhood. Among other things, too many bacterial risks involved, I fear!
The "big sleazy" couldn't be much sleazier, I suppose. I like the Hague better than Amsterdam or Hannover...
Over this coming weekend, I expect to be in Berlin, then Krakow, and perhaps into a region of Slovakia.
If I have time on the side, I do want to see Belsen-Bergen and Dachau...it just SO splits the heads of the antisemitic NeoSoc's open to tell them that there really WERE death camps, and Jews really WERE brutalized and murdered. Nothing is quite so brutal as the unvarnished truth!
What is it about those Lefties that turns their skulls into dolomite, and their brains into overcooked grits?
