Hugh Hewitt is one of the few pundits that understands that the vocal right minority's treatment of the Miers nomination is no different than the tactics used by the left to discredit jurists whom they have a philosophical difference with. It is borking just the same.

"Playing with fire over nominees --and especially attacking those who at least deserve the benefit of the doubt and at best deserve a strong and determined defense-- is terrible politics."

I agree.

Before the hemlock is consumed let the hearings play out.

Accepting arguendo the "borking definition as "to destroy a judicial nominee through a concerted attack on his character, background and philosophy," it's clear that it doesn't apply to Aunt Harriet.

Miers's character? We don't know.

Her background? Fine for a manager of a big law firm, but unkown for a judge.

Her philosophy? Don't know, and we're not alowed to ask, apparently.

The kool-aid brigade is doing Jesse Jackson proud in their cries of sexism or borking without any factual basis. We were promised another Scalia, and we got a cipher. And we're supposed to just bend over and smile? Not this time, George.

>>These critics aren't just refusing to dance with the one that brought them, they are denouncing the idea of even having traveled to the ball in his car.<<

Skuze me, he didn't bring us. It's the other way around, my friend.

What is not believable is that any could be a true conservatvie and support this nomination the more that comes out about this woman. For example:

The DRUDGE REPORT can now reveal that not only did Harriet Miers testify that she would not join the “politically charged” Federalist Society -- she testified that she had joined a liberal organization – the Democratic Progressive Voters League.

More from Drudge for the phony conservative Hugh Hewitt to put in his pipe and smoke:

Miers was also asked whether she considered “the NAACP [to be] in the category of organizations” that she considered to be “politically charged.”

Her answer: “No, I don’t.”

Miers considers the Federalist Society to be "politically charged," but won't make the same accusation against the NAACP?

What conservative in their right mind would support this woman?
