MIERS & LAST-MINUTE DROP-OUTS (Priscilla Owen did not withdraw her name)
National Review Online: The Corner ^ | 10-12-2005 | Kathryn Jean Lopez

Posted on 10/12/2005 12:26:51 PM PDT by Stellar Dendrite

MIERS & LAST-MINUTE DROP-OUTS [Kathryn Jean Lopez] A journalist friend just spoke with a top Texas lawyer who spoke with Priscilla Owen last week. He says that she "most emphatically" did not withdraw her name from consideration to the Court. If the White House spin is that Harriet Miers got the job because nobody else wanted it, it would seem that the White House is at a desperation point. Posted at 12:07 PM

Too bad the spineless RINO's wouldn't support her...

"If the White House spin is that Harriet Miers got the job because nobody else wanted it, it would seem that the White House is at a desperation point."

I think that's a pretty fair statement.

They were getting close last week when they were throwing around the usual liberal attacks to stifle dissent. Now they're apparently just in full out spin mode.

I'd look for a graceful withdrawl, from the nominee, of course, maybe early next week.

That over-states things by quite a bit. The anti-Miers folks are over-the-top. Again.

She spoke to a friend who spoke to a friend who spoke to Owen? Journalism at its best.

GWB is starting to look like Tessio at the end of the
Godfather 1 on this issue.

No, then what was Dobson trying to foist onto his overly credulous listeners the other day?

Isn't his main point that Miers wasn't the best choice, but rather, the only option available to President Bush?

Priscilla Owen is obviously a Bush hater. She's also elitist and sexist. She did withdraw and now she's saying she didn't simply to make the President look bad. The President said to trust him and that's enough for me.

Whew, your head really does feel light as air when you type things like that.

because that's what he believes, and that's the secret spin sauce coming from the administration.

Please point me to a statement from the White House which says “We tried to give this SCOTUS nomination away, but no one would take it. No one wanted the job. Finally, Harriet said ‘Oh, I’ll take it.’ Frankly, we were relieved. We thought we’d never find anyone willing to sit on the bench.”

I thought she was going to drop out by Friday? Now it's early next week?

And early next week, it'll be next Friday again?

Wow, seems to be on a par with the arguments to support Ms. Miers. Seems that a guy who knew this woman who used to cut her dog's hair heard her say once that she had just bought Constitutional Interpretation for Dummies and was studying up for the hearings. That was all I needed to hear to call my Senators with my enthusiastic support!!!!
