The MSM used to dominate the media and could have gotten way with their mis-information. But thanks to the internet and forums like this one, they can't get away with it for much longer.

Ultimately, the truth will be known.

I will never forget Whoraldo and Shemp Smith of Fox screaming about all the dead bodies floating everywhere. The trouble was they never produced the video of it.

Three sentences to the obvious lie - only the MSM 'reports' stuff. Grubberment officials might whisper in their ear but without the approval of the MSM it doesn't get out.

Actually, it really didn't take the internet to see through all the lies. Just listen to the newscasters and it was evident. Yes, Shep is right at the top of that list.

Fox has certainly besmirched it's good name with those two and when you throw in Weesly Clark, Greta (grating on my nerves) and Alan Combs. Well three of a kind makes a he** of a hand in almost any game but anyone will go all in on a full house.

Democrat elected officials lied. Nothing new there.
MSM lied. Nothing new there.

What is new is the fact that more and more of the public are starting to realize it. Now the MSM must find a way to restore their credibility. So what do they do? They buy themselves a couple of Senators and a couple of members of the house to redefine the first amendment to exclude the internet and especially the blogs. Ergo, the MSM is now the only game in town again. Then it don't matter if they lie, no one knows it.

Caviar at the Convention Center?
Tags: social organization, looting, convention center

The 9/14 ABC report "Caviar and Camaraderie Found a Place Inside the New Orleans Convention Center" starts out like this:

The cultural spirit of New Orleans was experienced by some Hurricane Katrina survivors, who managed to dine on gourmet provisions and create a sense of community while waiting for help to reach the city's crowded convention center.

Where'd the caviar come from? Did people bound for the Convention Center take jars with them? Of course not: it and champagne were looted from hotels in the area.

The report goes on to detail the experiences of Brian Corey and his roommate Jeff Rusnack. They were going to ride out the storm at their apartment in the French Quarter but "given the dire security situation that surrounded them" they decided to get out of town. They found the bridges closed, then went to the CC. According to ABC they describe a more tranquil, cooperative scene than what you might have heard. They also say there was no media around to observe.

They describe how things were bartered for and how the gangs became the good guys (???) and passed out supplies to the needy. And:

But they didn't rest long. They're now in St. Louis preparing prints of their photos to be sold on eBay with proceeds going to hurricane relief, and are starting work on a book to detail their experiences and offer "a sense of what was lost.

That storm sure washed up a lot of dirt in Louisiana. They tried shipping it to the Whitehouse. But all the local truck drivers were busy looting.

This really isn't a story about the media.

No-one could seriously expect the media not to report the story of people being raped at the Superdome when that had been confirmed by the Police Chief of the city. If they hadn't reported it, people on blogs and internet forums would have been screaming the place down demanding to know why the story was being supressed.

Likewise, the 'possible death toll of 10,000' (originally came from David Vitter I believe and was picked up by Ray Nagin), was always reported as being conjecture and who had said it - those stories were not 'lies'.

Now, lots of people said things that they shouldn't have (ok, lets be fair, they were under a lot of pressure, etc). Shooting the messenger doesn't achieve much.

an investigation by The (New Orleans) Times-Picayune found no evidence to support claims that babies were raped

But Oprah said it was so! How could it not be true?

"Shooting the messenger doesn't achieve much."

It does when the messenger has been lying to us for years, decades even. If I ran one of the broadcast news organizations, heads would roll. Starting with Smith and Rivera at Fox.
When reporters became "journalist", we stopped getting WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE AND HOW. Now we get blather and speculation.
ABCNNBCBS&FOX are the prime offenders on TV and God only knows which newspapers, if any report the facts anymore and radio is as bad or worse than TV & the "newspapers. We don't get "news' anymore, we got opinions.

I listened to one lie after another come out of the corrupt officials mouthes down there and I don't think we will ever get the 100% truth out of anyone or any news media because very lie that has been told, 10 people come and try to make an excuse or just plain cover it up.

I agree with much of what you have said..but the WAY the message was presented was as bad as the content. The MSM think that they did a WONDERFUL job in their coverage, only to now realize they were so wrong. Additionally, their reporters were so breathless and "sure" of what they said rather than being more professional, calm and objective. THEY became part of the story. THEY actually took what was said at face value. They imply that Bush is a "racist," but who reported rapes, killings, gang wars, looting, and fights without double checking their sources or checking out the Superdome themselves? Who were the racists, really? If no media were actually in the superdome as suggested here, they were doing just as a gossip rag would do. There were no "heroes" of the media during those days, though they like to present themselves as such.

The whole "Katrina violence never happened" movement started with the New Orleans Times Picayune, after Bush promised a quarter trillion bucks for repairs.

They got what they wanted from blaming the Feds, and now they want your money too, in continuing contributions and from tourism.

It wasn't as bad as they tried to tell you it was then, and it wasn't as good as they're trying to tell you it was now.

Don't get suckered by the "New Orleans Razzle Dazzle" scam.
