Whooohooo! The start of an FR Corvette club. LOL!
They were gooder than you remember. My dad got a '50 Pontiac for $2800, a '67 Ford for $2700. I bought at least 3 new cars in the '70s for less than $4,000. Then we got Jimmy Carter and hyper inflation.
Subaru 360?
A buddy had one, and I could lift the front or rear end off the ground by hand.
That car(?) would take most turns on three wheels, two if you pushed it!
I agree. The first time I had to go a big salvage yard to get parts, I got to see the ugly truth about wrecked small automobiles and I swore from then on I was going to drive midsize or larger vehicle (currently in a big GMC truck). They don't call 'em tin cans for nothing, the stains on the seats were testament to the uselessness of airbags and antilock brakes when you get clobbered by a semi.
And at about $500 a pop, that adds up to $3,000 out of the price of the car. Gotta wonder about the rest of it when government airbag bombs are over 30% of the price of the car.
