Great point! I'd like to see the whole public education system get scrapped. Every bit of it. Let the parents of these spoiled children figure out on their own how to get educated with their own money and find teachers and school systems willing to teach for much less than they are getting from our "evil" government and taxpayers. I agree that if they don't want the part of this country they don't like (military) then they shouldn't have the rest of it either (money, freedom, protection, rights, standards, etc).

Students that had Jr ROTC in the south got promotions right out of basic.

I don't know about the sixties part as when I when I got to my first base at the start of 1980, people were amazed that having JROTC in HS got you stripes out of basic. My drill instructors didn't even know how to handle it. It wasn't just the South as it applied to all JROTC and college ROTC ( for those who didn't do all four SROTC years but enlisted ) all over the country.

Colleges and Universities that descriminate against military recruiters should loose all federal funds - immediately.

I only mention this because I don't think that JROTC can do this anymore but a little "secret" was that facilities money was used for other school improvements. It couldn't be used for nothing associated to ROTC but areas of the schools physically connected to those used by ROTC could get a windfall.

An example was that in my HS, the Army refurbished half a wing of the school with nice classrooms. All ROTC needed was four, plus an office and armory. There were a dozen refurbished classrooms not used for ROTC and I'm sure ROTC had no intention of using them all. The school got several good classrooms to use for regular classes.

I even think the Army paid some for football field maintenance as we used the fields for "mandatory fun" football as ROTC classes. Our shooting range was on the side of the gym and there was talk of the Army financing at least some of rebuilding that as ROTC did use it, at least one outside wall of the gym.

The military should be able to recruit without restrictions..they should take a page out of the United Way playbook,they should be enabled to go directly into the work place..There is an unlimited pool of young educated young men and woman burdened by college debt and stuck with degrees that they can't use and in dead end jobs that are beyond boredom.They should raise the recruit age limits for the same reasons...I'll bet that would really start a firestorm....there would be so many joining they would have to turn them away...

Nearly ANYONE can recruit ANYONE for ANYTHING on campus - even "Girls Gone Wild" but when it comes to the military or the Boy Scouts in grade school or anything moral and decent - it's discouraged - go figure!
