Marcus Borden, the head football coach at East Brunswick for the last 23 seasons, has submitted his resignation.

Borden, who could not be reached for comment, was summoned to a meeting with Dr. Jo Ann Magistro, the East Brunswick Public Schools superintendent, on Friday after the issue of pre-game team prayer had been brought to the administration's attention.

Trish LaDuca, the coordinator of community relations and programs for East Brunswick Public Schools, said the superintendent's office was informed early in the week that there was prayer activity taking place at the team's pre-game dinners.

. . . there was prayer activity taking place at the team's pre-game dinners.

If the pre-game activity had been sodomy, they would have given him Coach of the Year award.

"Prayer activity at pregame dinners"?

My, my does that ever seem suspicious.

Good for the coach. He probably was disgusted by this PC crap. I played baseball, football, and basketball in high school. We said the Lord's prayer before every game.

I guess the next story will be about how football will be banned because the pigskin is offensive (no pun intended) to muslims.

Two more underpaid, overpromoted women who should have never left their homes. Has anyone inquired about their daycare offspring? Are these women's children better off for having 'CAREER MOMS'?

These two simpletons who thought that the PC handbook overruled common decency need to realize that the PC do not speak for the majority. Otherwise, they'd never have been reported. How sad a state we live in...

Moral Absolutes Ping.

I wonder where the dinners were? In school? At peoples' homes? In restaurants?

Does everyone see how not only ridiculous and unconstitutional this is, but positively wicked?

Reminds me of the Evil discussion coming up.

Freepmail me if you want on/off this pinglist.

I thought several court decisions allowed student-let and student-initiated prayer.

Not that I have a problem if it were the coach leading the prayer (of course, in my double-standard life, I would be upset if the coach was a Muslim leading the team in prayers to Allah - aka Satan).

Is this grounds for a coach having to resign.... Only in America where Christianity is becoming an increasingly outcast society.

It is time for civil disobediance. I would love to see the police, courts, and school systems try every single case of prayer if folks just decided enough was enough.

Did you read that article - it was in the last couple of days - about a speech Salman Rushdie gave? He said "superstition" (religion) should be shoved in the cupboard (I guess he want to avoid the word "closet") and should not be allowed in public life. There is a current of thought that is getting very vocal lately, that religion is a terrible influence. The worst influence. Basically evil.

Many people do not see how terribly dangerous this is. Me? The words "re-education camp" keeps coming into my mind.

Oh, the East Brunswick schools do have a Gay/Straight Alliance club, by the way. I'd still like to see how these open minded East Brunswick liberals would be if a court ordered their largely white town to exchange students with the largely black neighboring New Brunswick to desegregate their schools and improve the education of the poor kids in New Brunswick.

I should also point out that East Brunswick has a fairly large Jewish population so I'm not sure whether the problem is really religion in general, Christianity in particular, or just plain old political correctness. Of the three, I could actually understand a Jewish parent complaining about a distinctly Christian prayer.
