EVIL SNITCH BOASTED: 'TOO LATE' TO HALT KILLERS
NY Post ^ | 10-8-05 | NILES LATHEM and ANDY SOLTIS

October 8, 2005 -- The al Qaeda member who triggered New York's subway alert told the anti-terror squad that arrested him they were "too late," it was reported yesterday. The insurgent, captured in an Iraqi "safe house," passed some lie-detector tests, and information found in the house led to another terrorist hideout.

But the suspect's claims — of 19 al Qaeda operatives planning to plant bombs in subways, using baby strollers and other camouflage — have not been corroborated despite a massive U.S. intelligence effort, sources said.

The alert that jolted the city began last week when an informant, whose tips have panned out in the past, brought U.S. military intelligence the identities of three men who received bomb-making training with him in Afghanistan and are now working with al Qaeda's chief in Iraq, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.

The suspects, known as "the pharmacists," were holed up in Mussayib, a town in the "Triangle of Death," according to federal officials.

During Wednesday's raid, one of the "pharmacists" escaped, but two were captured — and one of them tried to make a deal with investigators by giving up details of the "plot."

According to an ABC News report, the terrorist uttered the chilling warning that the United States "can't stop us, it's too late," and said one of the 19 operatives is already in the country.

The fact that this informant has been right before adds a bit of credibility to this.

I have to believe that there's a plan B even if it's just suicide bombings on the street.

None of these guys have shown any bright intelligence to date...so to say "its too late"....they really have taken themselves down another notch. Any idot in NYC...who looks like a Arab over the next seven days...will be given a long hard look on every subway platform.

It is also a good way for the terrorist to get us to spend a lot of money on nothing. Also, cry wolf often enough and pretty soon no one will pay attention to you.

I would sure like to see the interrogation tape released. It may hit home to more of those who don't get it.

Well, I certainly hope they were nice and loving to this suspect, made sure he was happy and fed a good meal.

I hope they sad down and listened intently to his grievances and promised him not to worry, the infidels would be leaving soon.

If they would give him some ice cream maybe he would tell us more?

With sprinkles. And don't forget the cherry on top.

We have now come to the point where one ragged terrorist wearing a long nightshirt and a do-rag on his head can disrupt any large population center by claiming to know what is going to happen.

Of course we ignore such warnings at our risk, but it seems that in the physiological war the camel-jockys are winning.

Finally, if this does not jolt our leaders into closely profiling everyone in the country and everyone entering the country then nothing ever will, and we must trust our safety to random chance and to the tender mercies of a savage enemy who is driven by pure white-hot hate.

They were effective when they blindsided us. I don't think they precede their attacks with leaks.

But the rumors are very effective terror weapons in themselves - they get some people shaking.

wait...what?....I know the media sucks, but even they must have reported that piece of information. Do you have any media reports of this Downs Syndrome thing? I'd like to read that.

That's my thought, too. One of the problems - aside from the press' love of sensation - is that those in charge are caught in a bind. If they announce it, there's panic in the streets and, of course, they look ridiculous when nothing happens. However, there is just that outside chance that increased public vigilance will prevent something. The flip side is that they don't announce it, something happens, and we bring down our own government with the partisan fighting that breaks out afterwards.

This would all be a lot easier if it weren't taking place in the midst of a political game of "gotcha." I think Bush, by not focusing on Clinton's many security failures until very recently, was trying to avoid this very thing. But the Dems have been playing the game since a few months after 9/11, long enough for the trauma to wear off for them, apparently, letting them go back to their old ways.

The real threat comes when white-hot hate of the terrorists combines with that of the Dems.

If it helps, I remember reading it, too. It did receive some press coverage, but there was no massive indignation about it. Except in the boy's family, of course.

Yes, making even more disgraceful the Homeland Security position on the matter.

True, but imagine what a show "The 9/11 Commission, Part Deux" would make.

Our enemies aren't just outside of this country

Like it hasn't already? The only difference is that terrorists send bombs, and Democrats send bums. The targets are the same.
