CHESAPEAKE

There's been a high-altitude rustlin'. One of only two full-size Chick-fil-A cows in these parts has been swiped off a 50-foot-high billboard overlooking Interstate 464 in northern Chesapeake.

Workers for Adams Outdoor Advertising noticed the 500-pound fiberglass cow missing Tuesday. It's the first time Chick-fil-A has lost a local cow, but about a dozen have been heisted elsewhere. Ransom demands and mysterious "moo " phone calls have sometimes followed. So far, there's been no word of such activity here.

"It's kind of funny," said Chick-fil-A's Mark Baldwin, "but it's still a crime."

The black-and-white cows cost $3,200 – which makes stealing them a felony. The law has been notified and will be on the trail. A reward is being offered for the cow's safe return – a year's worth of free chicken sandwiches. Tipsters are asked to call (757) 382-6161.

Keith Krause of Adams can't figure out how the caper was pulled. A crane is usually used to move the cows. There were no tracks left at the scene.

Baldwin vows the company's stray steers are not a publicity stunt. Other outfits have been suspected of "stealing" their own promotional stuff.

"We wouldn't waste the time of the police like that," Baldwin said. "This was definitely an outside job."

He did, however, ponder another suspect. The cows push a message of self-preservation: "Eat Mor Chikin."

"Could this be a case of fowl play?" he wondered.

"Have the chickens had enough?"

I don't laugh about felonies, normally, but when (not IF) one of these bozoids falls off one of these billboards, and the cow falls on top of him, THEN I'll laugh.

awesome story! With all the one liners in it. Refreshing to read and get away from politics for a second. Sounds like the Chic Fil A owner is pretty cool.

Ok enough said back to the rat race!

Wow, the exact same thing happened at my high school.
It was the day of the Homecoming football game which was played at the away team's field. The same night BOB showed up on our roof, several trees were planted on the 50 yard line of their football field.

Thems was good times!!
