Customs Pick Faces a New Hurdle on Hill

Julie L. Myers, nominated to be assistant secretary of homeland security in charge of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, is scheduled for a confirmation vote Friday before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.

On Tuesday, however, four Judiciary Committee members asked Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) for shared jurisdiction, adding a new hurdle for Myers.

Crystal clear thinking there, huh? "Your not qualified, but I support you".

Voinovich is an embarassment.

This was more thoroughly explained in the WaPo article that was published the day after the hearing.

In addition to questioning her qualifications he also said that he wanted to meet with her and Sec Chertoff after the hearing. Subsequent to his meeting with Chertoff, he indicated his support for the nomination.
