Behl task force investigates body in Mathews County

The Richmond police task force investigating the disappearance of Virginia Commonwealth University student Taylor Marie Behl has discovered the remains of a body in rural Mathews County.

Sources close to the investigation said the body has not been identified. It was discovered in a shallow grave behind a barn on an isolated piece of private property just west of Diggs, a community along the Chesapeake Bay just south of Rigby Island. The area is about 70 miles east of Richmond. A law-enforcement source said police were led to the scene by a photograph identified by an ex-girfriend of a man they had interviewed in connection with the criminal investigation into Behl's disappearance.

The sources said Richmond Police Chief Rodney Monroe and other task force investigators flew by state police helicopter to the scene, where they were joined by investigators from the VCU police department, FBI and other agencies.

Reached at the scene, Monroe declined to provide details on what the task force had found.

"All we can say at this point is that we're in Mathews, Virginia, at a location where we've recovered the remains of a body."

Sources said the property where the grave was discovered was one of a number of "locations of interest" identified by task force investigators through their interviews with people questioned in connection with the disappearance of Behl, who vanished on Sept. 5. Authorities planned to keep the site sealed off overnight while they gathered evidence.

The 17-year-old VCU freshman from Vienna, Va., was last seen leaving her dormitory room at 10:20 p.m. on Sept. 5.

Well, one wild guess would be that this is a barn where Ben Fawley had previouisly taken photos of women.

They don't think it is the girl though. I live not far from York County which is not far from there. Diggs area is full of trash and undesirables. Small wonder a person was killed.......

I so pity this girl's mother. I mean, I pity the girl too, but if she's dead, she's beyond anyone's reach now. But the mother is still suffering. How hideous.

Sad UPDATE:
I just saw on the local news here in DC (news channel 8) that the family believes that this is indeed Taylor's body.

From the missing abducted blog that has been closely following this story all along:

UPDATE 8:43pm EDT: Riehl World has an unconfirmed report of the remains being found have been identified as those of Taylor Behl. We have seen some similar reporting from NBC12 as well. As this is still fluid and developing there is nothing in print as of yet.

Her mother has said that she believes it's Behl's body, though. I suspect that they have found some evidence--clothing maybe--that makes Mrs. Pelasara think this is Taylor. If this is NOT Taylor, then she could be one of several victims of this perp, whichever one he may turn out to be.

I saw that. At first, yesterday when they reported it on our local channel, they were saying they didn't think it was her. I guess they have found out it probably is. It is very sad. I wish it had not been her. She was to young to die that way.
