Ask White House counsel Harriet Miers when she first met George W. Bush, and she is less than specific. "I met him on a variety of occasions over the course of time," she replied recently, explaining their long-ago encounters in the social and power corridors of Texas. "But not in a memorable way."
Ask her what it was like to be the first woman elected president of the Texas Bar Association, and she invokes not gender, but the geographic rivalry that frequently underlies bar elections in the state. "It was a very vigorous campaign against a lawyer from Houston," said Miers, who is from Dallas.

It's hard to believe that after all that, Bush nominated two WASPs. Not even an Hispanic.
But she's 60 and a Bush pal. Crone & cronyism? I'm not happy. If age was no litmus, go with Star or Bork. I know alot of people who will be sitting home in 06 & 08 if this is what we end up with after fighting so hard on the GOTV.
Stupid move that will deflate the base.
George Bush is a phoney. I voted for the liar twice. He fooled millions of true conservatives.
I smell a socialist TROLL.
"George Bush is a phoney. I voted for the liar twice. He fooled millions of true conservatives."
Sure you did, newby. I believe you. Yeah, that's the ticket.
Interesting that you describe yourself as a socialist in your brief posting history here. Hmmmm.....
Why would you be concerned that the President supposedly fooled millions of conservatives when you're a socialist? Now you're throwing the liar and phoney words around. I smell a troll.
It's Bush's judgment that's at issue. There were plenty of better candidates that he could have picked. She could end up okay, but that's not saying much when there were many others who would much more deserve our confidence.
Well, I hope I'm wrong - but if she's not to the right of O'Conner then I'm done with politics & the party.
Can Catholics be WASP's now? I sure wish someone would keep me informend about thses changes.
Ohyeah. I forgot Roberts was Catholic. Just shows how irrelevant it's become.
So what do you think, looky hear?
You've bookmarked close to 40 threads over the last hour, you're everywhere, and yet you never say a word.
Doing research?
Actually, the article says nothing about Miers' religious affiliation (except that she attented Soutern Methodist University to get a mathematics degree).
But you can be pretty sure she's not Catholic - else there would be a Catholic absolute majority on the court, and that might offend quite a few folks.
Don't agree with that. But you're right that the fact they don't mention she's Catholic means she's not.
Now THAT I agree with.
Roberts is Catholic.
