Ronnie Earle Cleared DeLay Two Weeks Ago

Travis County prosecutor Ronnie Earle's announcement yesterday that he was indicting House Majority Leader Tom DeLay came a little more than two weeks after Earle gave clear indications that the top Republican was off the hook.

"I have never said that DeLay is a target of the investigation," Earle told the Dallas Morning News on Sept. 10.

Sources familiar with Earle's investigation had agreed that, before yesterday, it didn't look like the top Republican would be indicted.

On Sept. 19, for instance, ace Newsweek sleuth Michael Isikoff reported that it looked like DeLay was in the clear:

"Travis County District Attorney Ronnie Earle's two-year campaign fund-raising probe is expected to wind down soon without bringing charges against the House majority leader, according to lawyers close to the case who declined to be identified because of legal sensitivities," Isikoff reported.

"Earle doesn't plan to refer evidence to the prosecutor in DeLay's home district either," an Earle spokesman told Newsweek.

So what changed?

DeLay says reports that he was off the hook prompted a firestorm of outrage from national Democrats, who pressured Earle to reverse course.

"Do you really believe that the national Democrat leaders that announced that they were going to take this strategy ... never picked up the phone and talked to Ronnie Earle?" he asked the Fox News Channel's "Hannity & Colmes" Wednesday night.

Damned right!

The 'Rats realized that not enough people blamed Bush for the hurricanes, and nobody was all that interested in Cindy Sheehan anymore. They needed to get back on the front page and they've always hated DeLay.

In the end, the Rats are going to be the ones with egg on their faces. They are the gang that can't shoot straight.

This is going to be much more than egg when it comes out that Earle conspired with the DCC prior to the indictment. Conspiracy to commit fraud, illegal prosecution, perjury.. the list will be huge.. The only question is how the press will report it..

The Rats couldn't resist the opportunity when Frist came under investigation.

Don't worry about how the press will report it -- especially the abcnnbcbs-lamestream.

Once it gets out there it will grow legs.

And what about the link of casino money to Reid?? Should get interesting!

Certainly hope DeLay calls Earle as a witness in his trial and deposes him in the near future.

Yet for all of their slime, the Democrats will never be covered in high school textbooks the way McCarthyism is.

Very true.. just watch for those who spout the phrase
'culture of corruption'.. Their little catch phrase will bite them on the butt... especially when it was drafted 2 weeks before the indictment, with Earle's input.

The Dems are the boys that cry wolf. They accuse Republicans of many things that don't pan out. But the MSM never acts like the Republicans are being smeared, or that Dems are making baseless claims.

Instead, for years to come, MSM descriptions of DeLay will be: "Tom Delay, a Republican who was famously indicted in 2005, though he never actually served time in jail, introduced legislation yesterday that would ..."

The only question is how the press will report it.

I'll give you just one guess how the press will report this... or should I say how they WON'T report this.

Something must and has to be done to this Ronnie Earle...he's a disgrace to Texas politics. Time for someone to deep six him...this guy probably needs to serve some jail time...what a crook...

Delay did NOTHING wrong...and old earle knows it...the dembos DON'T CARE ABOUT THE RULE OF LAW...I can't believe this guy is still in any type of office. After what he tried to do to Senator Hutchison alone...he should have been out then...

I would give anything in the world to hear a newscaster say:
"Bill Clinton the disgraced ex-president who had an affair with an intern young enough to be his daughter, and was impeached for lying under oath about using parts of the young woman's anatomy as a cigar humidor . . ."

Of course, but now that this story is in the media, the media will carry Earle's water for him.

Just announced on C-span from AP that Delay is suppose to report to Travis Court on Oct. 21. Delays attorneys request that they not handcuff him in front of media.
