MOSCOW, September 27 (RIA Novosti) -- President Vladimir Putin said Tuesday that Russia would extend favorable naturalization terms for citizens of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) beyond 2006.
"Favorable naturalization terms will be extended beyond 2006," Putin said, speaking on live television and radio. "I have issued relevant orders to the government and the administration..."
According to the president, the government is planning to institute several additional measures, including simplifying the process of obtaining work permits and obtaining long-term residence in Russia without acquiring citizenship.
"I think, though, this is not enough," Putin continued. "That is why I am planning to instruct the government to develop a special program encouraging the return of our compatriots to Russia."
