As political milestones go, it doesn't look like anything to drop confetti over: Tonight, actress Geena Davis will become the first woman to play the president of the United States on television, in the ABC premiere of the drama ''Commander in Chief."
But to many women in politics, some of whom admit to being ravenous for progress, a fictional president is plenty of reason to celebrate.
SNIP
Rumors have swirled around the show, with some conspiracy theorists in Internet chat rooms convinced it is part of a liberal Hollywood plot to help Clinton win the presidency in 2008.

WRONG!!!!!!!!! PATTY DUKE WAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NY Newsday gave this show a horrid review today.
Saying worst drama of the season.
They also called it a comedy not a drama : ))
The President playing a woman on TV would be more interesting.
No, there's no agenda in Hollywood.
but ABC has said TV Guide says its one of the best new shows of the season in all its commercials! Could the network be, *gasp*, spouting hot air to try to get people to watch?
Yep. If you can't stand the real world, create a fake one and live in that.
From what I've seen of the previews, she was not elected, but assumed the presidency from the VP seat for some reason...........
It's so blatant and plain, even elementary school children know what it is and why............
Exactly why the West Wing was created.
So libs could continue living in fantasyland that a Bill Clinton style president was in the whitehouse.
A little help identifying the show/movie for the TV deprived? I don't recall the show you are talking about, meself. :-)
Lets get this right . . .
A REPUBLICAN President places an independent woman on the ticket. Think the show will credit the Republicans with being forward thinking? Or is it just a way to allow the ascending VP to take the country in a more progressive direction while correcting the excesses of the previous President?
Inquiring minds ant to know!!
I believe it was called "Hail to the Chief!". It was a sitcom that didn't last thru the season. She was not married and had had a gay Secret Service protector.............
and just to try to not make it too obvious. They make her a republican and that she was the VP, so she was just along for the ride, etc, etc.....
Ofcourse, they surround her with the typical hollywood version of republicans. Evil, whitehaired, sexist, white males (Donald Sutherland). And her character will end up being an independant, not republican. And I'm sure they will play up the "she's a wife and mother trying to be president" schtick to try to get the females to watch.
This show is a trainwreck and I hope it's cancelled quickly, but I predict that ABC, even if the ratings suck, will continue with it to push an agenda. Its like a paid political commercial.
I believe you nailed the whole plot. This whole show is trying to get the public ready for a "moderate" female president. Exactly the image Hillary Clinton is trying to get people to buy into now.
That's right! Fox show.
The sound you hear is that of millions of remotes changing channels.
What about Blair Brown? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0104794/
Curiously, she was portrayed as:
1. A decorated former military general during The Gulf War.
2. A conservative with liberal leanings (wtf?)
3. 'Pro-Choice' who revealed that she once, unregrettably, had an abortion.
