The American Civil Liberties Union has launched a drive to persuade education officials in 18 states to reject federal government-affiliated abstinence-only programs.

The ACLU, citing data from a December 2004 report by Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., claims the programs discriminate against homosexuals, contain too much religious connotation and spread false information, the Washington Times reported.

I think Waxmans nose discriminates against the rest of his face. Makes as much sense as what this idiot is saying.

The classes aren't intended for homosexuals, don't need to be based on religion and if they are inaccurate or not effective I don't see how that is the ACLU's business - are they claiming a right to sex education now?

There are lots of ineffective classes in other subjects too- why don't they go after them too?

If local school districts choose not to teach contraception or if they choose to not not have sex ed at all that should be a local decision and the district can deal with any consequences.

ACLU has done more to tear apart the foundations of our country and culture than any other org.

"ontain too much religious connotation and spread false information,"

So now saying 'Don't have sex' is religious?

Boy, these people are really pushing it!

Abstinence must also mean no buggery. The key to understanding the Dems hysteria here is the word 'Waxman'. This guy thinks just like he looks.

We have to figure out how to defund the ACLU.

I think the FIRST step would be to eliminate the ability of Law Students to intern with the ACLU.

Law Students should NOT be allowed to have school credit granted because they worked at the ACLU. This can be done by putting it as a Bar Membership application.

Just like some states require "residency" time in law school. (IOW no two year law school programs) Or other states do not accept clinic credit.

No ACLU chapter should be permitted to "nest" in ANY law school. Law Schools, even the private ones, have a public component because it requires the taking of a bar exam and an application process.

We need to get rid of the dept of education and get all forms of govt. out of the school business, ASAP.

This is the sort of political issue nobody needs.

Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., claims the [abstinence education] programs discriminate against homosexuals

If that's even possible, the anti-abstinence sex-ed classes discriminate against homosexuals even more, since the classes usually spend a significant proportion of time on various methods of birth control.

You mean rid ourselves of socialist indoctrination camps? Unfortunately... they have woven themselves tightly into the fabric of our society.

I'm working on a degree... and see/hear first-hand .....all the garbage they shove down our kids throats. Even if you opted to go for an education online....you are still required to take Sociology and Psychology. Try to get a degree in any State, without it. These are intense brainwashing programs.... directed at trying to eliminate what is left intact morally... after the public schools have finished with you.

Any healthy society would discriminate against homosexual behavior.

Abstinence must also mean no buggery.

What would be the point of asking queers to refrain from buggery until they reached a certain age? Upping their average lifespans from 40 to 41 or 42 years?

I'm going to speak from the heart: abstinence-only education is just plain stupid. A course should just say "um...don't have sex" and that is sufficient? Kids are going to have sex, better to teach it to them safely then to have them getting pregnant and getting abortions or getting STDs. Parents can have their kids opt out of this course if they find it offensive, I do not see why a minority insists upon putting its views on everyone else. When I took sex ed, I don't remember a single kid not taking the course.

The drug portions of those health classes are also a sham, saying marijuana makes men grow breasts. Snoop Dogg doesn't have a DD cup, it's all DEA propaganda. Marijuana however is very bad for you; I can recall anecdotally how it causes memory loss in people I know, but the War on Drugs is preposterous. Schools push way too much propaganda on the kids. I may sound like a liberal, but I find protecting children and telling them the truth more important than sticking to an antiquated principle.
