Iran cooperating, sanctions may cause more problems: Putin

Iran is cooperating sufficiently with the International Atomic Energy Agency over its nuclear programme and it also wants to continue negotiations with the EU-3, Russian President Vladimir Putin said today. UN sanctions could cause "more problems that could probably reach a dead end," he told Fox News television.

"Today the Iranian side is working sufficiently in cooperation with the IAEA," Putin said adding, during a recent meeting with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the latter assured him that Tehran wants to continue negotiations with the EU-3 (France, Britain and Germany) and "we are going to proceed from that." Describing the question of referring the Iran nuclear issue to the Security Council as a "non-issue", Putin said under the rules, any permanent member can refer any issue to the Council at any time. Whether it will draw the support of other members is a different matter.

He said both Russia and the US have a joint position on the question of nuclear proliferation.

Putin restated Russia's position that the US should set a date by which it will withdraw from Iraq, but added there is logic in President George W Bush's statement that foreign troops should leave when Iraqis are in a position to defend against the armed opposition who are perpetrating violence.

The timetable would depend on the readines of the Iraqi security forces but, depending on the specific situation, foreign troops can leave "in 12 months or more, 24 months or something like that," he added.

Obviously we know by now that whatever the KGB man Putin says is the opposite of the truth, that is, and always has been the way of things with the KGB.

Russia's interests are advanced by perpetuating instability in the Middle East, thus driving up oil prices and damaging Western economies, and at the same time increasing the value of Russias own oil production.

What is being said in public, and what is being done behind the scenes is likely very, very different.

Russia refuses to fall in line over Iranian program - Top officials from the US, the European Union, Canada and Japan failed to persuade Russia that Iran's nuclear program should be reported to the United Nations Security Council, an EU diplomat said yesterday. "Russia still sees room for diplomacy in Vienna."

In other news: the second apple has fallen on the head of Sir Isaac Newton. "This confirms the law of gravity", said the prominent scientist.
And what else would you expect? There are sufficiently deep civilizational affinities there (look at 1979 embassy hostages crisis for another example if you wish)- sort of "international of despots". Birds of feather flock together, right? And the predilection for the clients like Kims, Saddam, Assads and their ilk and kind nicely fits the pattern.

A quote from Gary : It is not longer Putin who lives, but Christ in him

Yes I know I'm quoting him out of context, but I'm sure he would agree with the conclusion: Putin must always right.

"Yes I know I'm quoting him out of context, but I'm sure he would agree with the conclusion: Putin must always right."

There is a reason why Putin is always "right".
GarySpFc admits in the post below his close, close ties with Putin, the former KGB murderer:

I told you long ago Putin is a Christian. Indeed, he had my wife and a couple of others write a Bible curriculum for the schools, which he had drawn into a bill and signed into law.
