Circle of Liberty, or Crescent of Embrace? - The Flight 93 Memorial
JEFFHEAD.COM ^ | 14-Sep-2005 | Jeff Head

The decision on what shape and form the memorial to Flight 93 will take is nearing finalization. If you remember, Flight 93 was the one airliner on 911 where the passengers had the time and the opportunity to fight back and end the plans of the murderous terrorists who had hijacked them. Who will ever forget the heroic words of Tod Beamer as he charged the terrorists with his fellow Americans? ""God help me. Jesus help me. Are you ready? Let's roll." " In making that charge and ending the terrorists murderous plans, they became heroes and delivered a victory to the American people in the midst of that day of attack and terror.

Amazingly, the design that is being finalized is called the "Crescent of Embrace", and includes a landscaping of the memorial that is a red crescent, which closely resembles the principle symbol of Islam and the symbol most meanigful to those murderous animals who the members of the Flight 93 passengers and crews defeated, at a cost of their own lives. Here's what that final design is depicted to look like:

Whether intentional or not, such a design in my opinion, and I believe to most Americans, is unacceptable. In no way should we memorilize the sacrifice and heroic actions of those brave Americans with anything that could remotely be construed to represent the symbol of the very enemies against whom they fought.

After considering it a few days, I have come up with a design of my own. I call it the "Circle of Liberty". Here it is:

The idea of this design is meant to be clearly all-American. There is a minature of the Statue of Liberty at the center, at the site of the crash. Surrounding that statue, are forty landscaped stars, each one with a central area containing a plaque memoralizing that specific passenger. Each star has a path that leads to the statuesignifying the individual path each trod to that fateful day and their sacrifice for liberty in the first resistance in the war that began that day.

This design also has a major entry from east or west, signifying the breadth of our nation and its coming together. In addition, all of the stars in the circle are tied together by a path leading in a circle between them all, signifying the unity and "closed circle" we as Americans must have in fighting and defeating this enemy...even as those passengers in crew were united in their sacrifice.

I believe that such a design is much more fitting and representative of our needs as a nation in this struggle and as we remember those who sacrificed all on 911, particularly the brave souls fighting their enemies on Flight 93. If I, as an admitted untalented and non-professional architect or landscape artist could come up with something such as this, surely the professionals tasked with presnting proposals to the US givernment could do the same.

If you are unhappy with the chosen design above, the "Crescent of Embrace", please contact the US Park Service at the Official Fight 93 Memorial Web Site and register your feelings.

I never said I didn't believe what they say...or respect the opinion. Just that I disagree with it. That's all.

...and I agree. Everyone should listen to all sides and make up their own mind.

It's not a crescent and it doesn't point to Mecca.

Exactly. The point is really not whether it was intentional or not-the point is it will be perceived as a symbol of Islam, by many Americans and by the Islamofacists as well, who will sit around chortling about "their" memorial where there should be a memorial to our fallen heros.

With the Red's stadium??? I know that. Wanted to give the conspiracy theorists some motivation to find better examples than I did. :) :) :)

Plus it was the middle of the night when I posted the gif of the stadium. I was sleep typing or something like that.

My letter I sent yesterday thanks to Star CMC:

I wanted to let you know that I am appalled that the Flight 93 memorial is in the shape of a crescent, which you may or may not know is a symbol of Islam. To make a memorial to victims that were brave enough to stand up and fight against terrorists, knowing that they would die doing it, be in a shape of the religious symbol of the perpetrators, is sick and a slap in the face to their heroics. Osama Bin Laden’s act of terror on the United States of America ended when the brave men and women of flight 93 formed a citizen militia and took down the plane. They died on their terms to save the lives of unknown numbers of people in unknown places. They need to be honored for fighting Islamic terrorists and that is not done be building an Islamic crescent on the crash site. Planting trees to form the battle cry “let’s roll” would be better and it would remind all people who see it that we can not idly sit in our seats when terror strikes, we need to stand up and take action. In short, be American. That is why our country was founded and those are the principles on which it was built. That is why we are the greatest nation on Earth. Please do not use the current proposal for the Flight 93 Heroes.

Yeah, we have. Erik has become friends with a pro GNCC racer who hangs in our area off and on in the summer. We go to where he is and he puts Erik through Justin's Bootcamp. Sad thing though, max burned 3 of his fingertips on my bike. I was devastated, but he definitely figured out what mommy means when I say stay back, it's hot!

Jeff:

Thanks for this thread and for supporting the effort to modify this Memorial.

I agree with you that it is totally inappropriate to honor the heroism of those on Flight 93 with a crescent symbol.

I visited the Shanksville site last October and was moved to tears and filled with pride at the magnitude of their sacrifice on 9-11-01.

Regardless of whether the families accept this 'Crescent of Embrace'....all Americans are paying for the National Memorial so we need to make our voices heard!

The inverted is an ancient pagan symbol. It's existance anywhere on American soil is unacceptable. You can bet that the families of those heroes have ben subject to constant psychological attack by the propagandists, so their acceptance of that vulgar, disgusting symbol need not come as any surprise, butneither is it any reason to relent.

Correction: The inverted Crescent is an ancient pagan symbol.

Also, the word embrace seems equally offensive.

Jeff & ALL:

I just called this number and spoke with Adam who is taking comments on the proposed Memorial. Superintendent Hanley is unavailable.

Superintendent - Flight 93 National Memorial
(814) 443-4557

He told me the name has been changed to 'Circle of Embrace'....but he said it is a broken circle interruped by path of the plane's crash site.

I said that just changing the name isn't the solution and that the offensive crescent symbol must be removed or modified.

I asked if there will be public hearings before the Memorial plan is finalized.

He was uncertain....but he said I could leave my name & address to be put on a list to receive written notice early in 2006 when the NPS's 'General Management' discusses the final plans.

He also took down my comments objecting to the present proposal.

FRiends: Please call ASAP:

I still want to know who is being "embraced". All this touchy-feely crap just means that 9/11 was OUR fault, and we have to be loving and forgiving of Islam.

It is intolerable.
